    Axle ratios limit towing?

The simple way to understand; The lower the number the fewer the times the transmission propeller shaft spins. The higher the number the more times it spins. That means if its 3.92 the engine and transmission need to work less hard to get the rear axle to turn because the axle spins more...

Excessive brake dust is apparently "normal"???

Try another pad like Hawk LTS or Hawk Ceramic. Both are very low dust. The dust is actually the glue, or binder, they use to make the pad. Its also why you have brake fade if you push your truck. It is too late to burnish your brakes, but i suggest a top pad like Hawk, which got its start...

    EGR service

Thanks for the reply! This dealership said it's supposed to be done at the same time as the CCV filter. Sounded like bunk when he was talking about it- the way he was talking about it. It has 70.5k miles and has 360ish idle hours.

    EGR service

So, I just replaced the CCV filter and Perform Service won't stay off with reset. Dealership walked over, lifted hood and told me I needed a $650 EGR cleaning without any other diagnostics at all. I've had a bunch of these cummins with our company with well into the hundreds of thousands of...

Nothing but short trips in 6.7 diesel

Chrysler mechanic calls it carmalization, but yes. It also causes in cylinder fuel to harden into a caramel like substance clogging everything.

Nothing but short trips in 6.7 diesel

The diesel appendix section. Spells it out in black and white. I'm out on a transfer from boat dealership to dealership now, when I get home tonight later I'll s3e if I can find my manual and snap a photo.

New Ram 2500 CTD, no plug in- DEF question

Ok, thanks! All our existing trucks came complete for cold weather. I picked this one up in a little bit south if me and it didn't have the pigtail. The dealership seemed to not know one single thing about it and my dealership didn't understand what I was asking. If it's all there I'll just...

Nothing but short trips in 6.7 diesel

RAM CTD uses the first 3,000 miles to final polish the inside of the engine. It's best to pull something heavy as much as you can during that period, and RAM strongly recommends it, but I don't think it'll hurt the engine if you cant. According to my mechanic run the exhaust brake on full ALL...

New Ram 2500 CTD, no plug in- DEF question

So I just picked up another 2500 and am putting mine into our growing fleet. The new one, a holdover '18 didn't come with the heater grid pigtail plug. The question is do all CTD come with some type of DEF and fuel line/tank heater built in- or what would it need to upfit at the dealership...

    Cylinder slap on cold/cooled startups

So I finally got an answer for this- it was the CP front injector pump knocking - again- if you can believe that. New pump and it's quiet again. Aren't these pumps supposed to hundreds of thousands of miles being that they're mechanically driven?

    2018 2500 4x4 alignment issues?

I've found the new suspension will eat the outside edges of your fronts under heavly load unless they're very close to max pressure. Best thing is to have a portable pump you can fill/lower at your convenience for towing to keep presume optimal for even wear. And rotate them fairly...

    Towing and break-in period

This. And change the oil 1,000 miles sooner, and cut the transmission fluid change interval by 15% just to be safe.

Can this truck with 3.92 rear tow 8k - 9k lbs safely

Yes, you can do it safely. I suggest a really good load distribution hitch, but yes even without one it can be done safely with air bags like the Air Lift 1,000 unless you're getting one with the air bag system OEM. You just have to make sure your trailer brakes are always in perfect working...

    Cylinder slap on cold/cooled startups

Back after a long absence. :) So, we have about 32 trucks in the fleet now, all but 2 are owner operator- all are RAM! One of the two is giving me headaches. My personal '17 2500 just replaced the NOX sensor. Expensive fix. Replaced the front injector pump at 12,000 and again at 26,000...

    2500 wheel question

17 ram 2500 CTD 4x4 Wanting to downsize to 17" wheel, will this fit over the brakes/hub/etc? Duallys run 17s but they also use that sorta spacer thing. Yes, I know about the resets and flashes that would need to be done, I'm just curious if they'll fit. Want to use a specific tire...

Gasser or Diesel for hauling 12K?

But you can't just say he has a Cummins and do it with a straight face. A Cummins in a what? 2500? 25.7 mpg from Cape coral to my home in michigan recently. That's good for about 790 range. 12.8 towing my 14,000 lb 5th wheel on my last trip. MY duallys get 21 MAYBE 22. The one dually we...

    Towing 20' Trailer...Bouncing Like Crazy

Most common issues for bounce: ~Overloaded trailer tires. Manufacturers get the cheapest crap rubber then can. Change to 10ply ~Overloaded trailer springs. Upgrade springs or get Joy Rider shock/spring kit. ~Improper front to back loading. Trailers weren't intended to be pulled empty...

1500's are really this useless? - Hit the CAT scale today - Disgusted

Factory numbers include a 180 lb driver and 1/2 tank of gas. And no offense, but the sticker was on the door when you looked at it. Should have notied then it was only 1100 payload. Reality is, but you're getting you cart in front of your horse. Load the trailer not the truck when you...
