Also, big backyard mechanic tip for those doing this...have a cold wet towel as you're guaranteed to burn your hands on the x pipe. The big boy v8 heats that exhaust pipe really quick.
Its coolant. I'd be changing the water pump soon especially if youre planning any road trips. Use the correct coolant. At 90k, I'd consider replacing all the coolant too.
I recently got a 2post asymmetrical hoist installed and I'm having a little uncertainty about where to properly place the arms for the lift points. It's an asymmetrical 2post which is designed to allow the front doors to swing open but I feel like I have to move the truck several inches forward...
Are you cold climate boys idling your truck for a few minutes at -40c? I idle for 5min (really the only time I idle) at those frigid temps. I idle mainly because the windows are frost and I'm out scrapping and clearing snow/ice.
I'm using the redline 75w140 and have changed it twice so far. But I'm probably going to go amsoil severe gear 75w140 because of the bag. Such a clever idea.
For those who switched to maxlife, did you do another drain and fill or several drain and remove the old zf fluid by dilution?
I did the switch with the ppe but have done any drain and fills yet.
When I open the rad cap, I felt pressure relieving so I'm pretty sure my system is well sealed.
Will keep an eye on the reservoir. I'm in the north so we get extreme cold and extreme heat every year.
I wouldn't worry too much about those temps as long as it doesn't get too much warmer. Gasoline engines rev high to produce its power and a well maintained engine should be able to rev that high all day. Unless you go diesel or force-induction, gas engines will rev high.
I've refilled the coolant reservoir a few times (1-2L each time) because I'm finding the reservoir to be bone dry. The coolant seems to be full at the rad cap(cold motor) but nothing in the overflow. I don't see any leaks anywhere. Are you guys experiencing this periodically?
I did the transmission service with valvoline maxlife and a ppe pan. Highly recommended. I was towing a heavy trailer on a short 15km trip and the temps stayed cool. Under 85c on a heavy heavy load.
Thanks everyone, its reassuring. I will repeat a uoa probably in 2 or 3 years when I hit 160000km or 100k miles to see where we are at. The main preventative measure I take for the notorious lifter/cam issue the hemi is known for are running pup5w30, synthetic media filter (wixxp) and avoid...
