To Shell or not to shell, that is the question!

I'm a fan of toppers. I had a full-height ARE top on my Dakota, and I have the mid-height LEER for my 2017 1500. The ones that are taller than the cab allow bikes to fit upright. I like the extra space in the taller ones. I can't picture an extra foot of height (or less, depending on the...

Who transitioned from a midsize and how do you like it?

I had a Dakota before my 1500. My kids and their friends keep getting bigger, and the back seat in the Club Cab Dakota kept getting smaller :) I also couldn't tow my utility trailer very much without taxing the engine. I have no regrets getting the bigger truck. My gas mileage is better with...

    Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver?

I have a front receiver on my truck. You do need to drill two holes in the front rails, but it's not that bad. You technically don't have to cut the front air dam, but it will bend around the receiver if you don't cut it. I didn't cut mine.

    Anyone seen this yet???

I have one, too. I don't have a scale available to weigh my trailer, but the numbers do line up with what I estimate, and the tongue and bed weights are accurate.

    DIY Bed liner?

I did it to my brand-new 2000 Dodge Dakota. One of the first mods I did to that truck. After 17 years of hauling stones, furniture, wood, gear, etc., it was still in really good shape. That first scuff on the brand new paint was the hardest, but after that, it's pretty easy. :D I liked the...

    Front tonge weight ram 3500

On my Dakota 19 years ago, and my 1500 now, the front hitches are bolted to the front frame. 4 bolts. That's the basic design for all the front hitches I looked at. I just quickly looked at snow plows that are attached to 3500s, and many of them are 700lbs+ A few I found were over 1000lbs...

Any way to have doors lock on their own?

I had two vehicles with aftermarket alarms. Both of them were configured to auto-lock after X seconds. In 17 years, I never locked my keys in either vehicle. Now, with the RAM, there are times I forget to lock it, though. I wish I had the auto-lock on this.

    Removing chrome from plastic

I de-chromed one of my cars, and gold-plated everything using one of those cheap electroplating kits. Pretty easy to do, and didn't take very long.

I did it finally, got a Ram [and a question.]

It's amazing how fast surface rust appears on rotors. It really just takes a few days for them to turn color. I just drive like normal, and after one drive, they are shiny again. As long as the surface isn't damaged yet, they should be fine.

    Dash Cam Thoughts

The big deciding factors are the features that you want. Constantly recording when car is off (will record anyone trying to do something to your car before they do it), start recording if it feels a bump (will hopefully record the person driving away), recording if it sees motion (start...

How to Haul a 17' Canoe

I would go with Gero's idea. There are several companies that make temporary roof rails, including Thule (since you already have their rack on the cap). They hold very well, and they don't interfere with the doors closing. I had a set for one of my previous cars, and it worked great. Clip it...

I overlooked the "2500" part of the post... I was going by my 1500... :doh2: I guess it helps to read everything.... :D

Wheel hop in deep sand solutions

80 psi is the *Maximum* tire pressure those tires can handle (according to TireRack). It looks like 85 psi is above the maximum the tires are rated for. You should be running what is on the door placard, not the tire maximum. You should be around 40psi day-to-day, and dropping much lower on...

    Rear View Mirror Dash Cam

I've done a few after market cameras for some of my other cars, including a rear-view camera display. The only thing you would need to change from the normal documentation, is to wire it to a power supply that is on when the truck is on, and not into the reverse light power. That way, the...

    Bedliner

I used Herculiner on my 2000 Dakota. After 17 years, it was still in great shape, and I put lots of lumber, stones, rocks, furniture, gear, etc, in that truck over the years. I also used some Herculiner on my wooden deck steps for some extra traction. Doesn't last as long on there because it's...

    Retro fit truck cap

My 2000 ARE cap for my Dakota had the same basic shape as my 2017 LEER cap for my 1500. The back of the cap doesn't follow the curve of the new tailgates. The back door of the cap is straight across. A piece of plastic is added to the tailgate to give it a flatter edge to meet up with the...

    front facing camera

I mounted a camera in the tow hook cover plate. It's better than nothing, but being that low, I don't get a good idea of distance. I'm going to mount another camera higher up to get a better angle. Even a simple license plate frame camera would be a little bit higher, but still not high enough.
