I just received mine. They look good. Looks like quality stainless steel. The welds are as good if not better than the BBKs I’m replacing. They will go on when my new engine goes in. I ordered OEM gaskets and arp bolts.
Well I haven’t ordered it yet. I’m also looking at complete crate engines but it seems chrysler hasn’t updated anything.
So the reman engine I’m looking at is from “Powertrain Products”.
Yes , thanks. It is expensive. And the truck is in great shape so I’m replacing the engine. The reman company I am using claims to have righted the wrongs of the issue. Which includes:
We have eliminated the oil sludge issue by utilizing a newly engineered piston which brings the combustion...
Just to throw some cold water on the warm and fuzzy party.... I shut off MDS about three years ago. I don’t allow my truck to idle anymore than using remote start 5 minutes before I drive. Change the oil with movie one every 5k or if the warning comes on (which ever comes first).
186,000 miles...
Wow, I haven’t been in here in quite some time. Hello old chaps.
Well at 186k miles I suffered the old worn lifter and destroyed cam issue.
The truck is still rust free and I love it so engine replacement it is.
I looked at a lot of options. Used engines with high miles are ridiculous in...
My engine just went bye bye as well. I also had BBK shorties. After 4 years the collectors started to rust through and leak. So I am where you kind of are. I needed to replace the engine and the headers. I thought of oem manifolds but couldn’t bring myself to do it.
But I realize in NY I need...
I did the ceramic because I plan to keep the truck a long time. It also lowers the header temps a little. And if you saw how your coolant lines and other stuff run really close to the headers you may want to consider ceramic. And make sure you get new OEM gaskets as they have the heat shield and...
I use it once and while, but honestly I cringe when I use it. It is literally slamming hard parts together. I live in Western NY and get plenty of nasty roads. At a stop light or something in slush or rain, I will pop it into 4 high, take off from the intersection and flip it back to 2wd.
On...
Seems to be a hot topic these days. Well if you are out of warranty or Chrysler won't cover you because your truck was born in Canada like mine.
I went with ceramic coated BBK shorties. I think MOEs has them around 400. Stage 8 locking head bolts and OEM gaskets. Been I think almost a year and...
I had the same line of thinking as you. I went with BBK ceramic coated headers. They are just a little more money but have a great reputation.
BBK Ceramic Coated Shorty Headers 2009-2014 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD 5.7L Hemi
I did those headers, OEM gaskets, Stage 8 locking header bolts.
Its the bad manifold design that warps and stresses the bolts. New bolts are also on borrowed time. I decided I never wanted to deal with again and went with ceramic coasted BBK shorties and all new Stage 8 Locking header bolts. Its been almost year and no issues.
