2015 5.7 Hemi oil pan removal

I'm interested in seeing responses to your question. This is on my long range To-Do list come next Spring or Summer (when I will have an extra set of wheels to drive while my truck is on jack stands). Until I read your post I had just assumed that the electric PS rack wasn't that different...

First oil change on 2023 1500 5.7 Hemi

Hi Skates15, I'm in Central instead of Northern Minnesota, but in climate zone 5. I had some of the same questions when I first got my 2018 RAM with 5.7L Hemi. After much reading, I settled on Redline 5W-30 for my oil and use Fram Ultra XG2 filters. I have done a remote filter...

8HP75 Fluid Change and PPE Pan experience

8HP70 transmission service - This was the most recent web site post I found on 8HP70 and 8HP75 transmissions. I don't have a heavy duty, but some of this may apply anyway. If my post is in the wrong place, please have a moderator message me or move it. Just did my first 8HP70 transmission...

ZF 8HP70 transmission fill plug size??

Did you find one? Just came across your post. They seem to be M18 X 1.5 mm, and new ones can be had for prices between $6.21 and $12.39 (or more). The lowest price I found was for a Febi branded plug from FCP Euro (but genuine ZF for $6.45), and the highest was for a BMW branded plug from...

Parking Brakes - DIY links and tips

My 2018 RAM 1500 has about 90K miles and five Minnesota winters. I recently did a full brake job on all four corners . . . in the process I realized I needed new Parking Brakes (PB’s) and their hardware too. For those of you who may replace your PB’s (and rear brakes), this is my “Road Map to...

Replacing 5.7L Oil Pan because of rust - opinions on choice of pan ?

Posting this in general discussion for widest audience. What are my Oil Pan choices for 5.7L in a 4th Gen 1500 4X4 ? Does anyone make a better-than-OE oil pan ? I have been appalled at the rust on my oil pan. I installed Mopar OE skid plates when I first bought the truck, and they have...

AC Evaporator Cleaning - what really worked for you?

Self-update: I removed glove box and blower / resistor again. I introduced another can of the same NextZett Clima-cleaner into the evaporator drain hole this time. As much as possible I added all the cleaner in one shot, but I found that a large part of it began to come back out at me once I...

Best way to clean & de-odorize AC Evaporator ?

Yesterday I tried to clean my AC evaporator to eliminate the musty socks smell. My efforts improved things, but it was not the complete fix I way hoping for. I posted in the Detailing Sub-Forum, but maybe that was a mistake, because I would like specific 4th Gen advice. Here is the link to...

AC Evaporator Cleaning - what really worked for you?

Hi - Reporting on my AC evaporator cleaning and hoping to do it better I'm asking for input from members who have successfully gotten rid of AC smell, that musty, "wet wool", or "old gym socks" smell coming from the heater core and AC evaporator in their trucks. My 2018 Laramie just turned...

What did you do with your 4th Gen this week?

New struts and shocks. I'm at 86K miles on my 4th gen Laramie 1500. My ride had degraded - with the severe frost heaves from this past winter, it was really noticeable. I went with Bilstein 5100's on both front and rear - no lift, just stock height. I viewed this video for rear shocks...

Question on Exhaust Manifold Replacement - bolts

Well, here's what I did – not a guarantee, hope it's not too redundant, use at your own risk, posted because I wish I had more details in one place, etc. Summary of background I found on exhaust manifold replacement: Driver’s Side (DS) is harder than Passenger Side (PS) Side because of...

Project Farm - ranking for RTV Gasket Makers

Just an FYI post about Project Farm (YouTube channel) ranking of RTV Gasket Makers - published this month. Here's the link: Project Farm tests RTV's Note that the practical testing indicated some general trends - and that the MOPAR product he tested seemed superior for many things on which...

Question on Exhaust Manifold Replacement - bolts

My 2018 Laramie CC with 5.7L Hemi suffered the most common broken rear-most exhaust manifold bolt on the passenger side (PS) ten months ago. But with < 60K miles, my dealer replaced the manifold and hardware under warranty. Only the bad side was replaced, and since it was a warranty job, I could...

    Need Help Mysterious Clunk

Quick_Shifter has good advice - do the two steps one-at-a-time, or you might need to re-assemble & retest. Looks like your RH side (to frame) track bar bushing has seen better days, though it may not be the noisy part. The sway bar link bushing does look a little suspect.

6.4 hemi Engine running cold not throwing much heat

If Trucktracy is anywhere near where I live, I'm not surprised. I can drive for over fifteen minutes on the highway after a cold start and none of the fluids will be up to temp this time of year - so an open T-stat would do that on shorter trips.

    2018 Ram Sport bought used

I feel for you - and I second the opinion that a new radio will likely fix the problem. My radio did almost exactly the same thing when my truck was at about 35K miles - just barely inside the 36K/3Yr factory warranty. My story was very similar to yours - radio was continually rebooting...

5.7 plug change through wheel well

Thanks for the encouragement to go through the wheel wells - the videos I have seen all go through the top. With the wheel well approach I can clean out behind the liners, and I can combine this with exhaust manifold removal, machining, and reinstallation. I second the recommendation for the...

    Engine tick question

Hey DKelly - I just listened to your two videos. To my ear, I hear the same "tick" in both, maybe masked by other noise at cold start. So in your situation I'd grab a piece of clean fuel hose or similar and use it like a stethoscope to listen along the length of the exhaust manifolds...

    Engine tick question

I'd encourage you to do a quick check for a manifold exhaust leak. The common broken bolt scenario can be checked on the truck when cold, from inside the engine compartment topside with the truck on the ground - might need a stool if your truck is lifted. If heat shields are in place, a...

    Ignition switch

Could fill us in on the trouble-shooting information "a lot of sources" considered to diagnose a bad switch ? You'll likely get more and better input. My go-to is to always be certain of my battery before going forward. I'm in Minnesota, and my 2018 has already had a new battery, due to a...

Options for "Dead" Laramie 8.4 UAS head unit ? (2018 2500, out of warranty)

Posting on behalf of my Brother-in-Law. 2018 Laramie 2500 CTD. There are other threads on close to this same topic - but many focus on connecting & coding 8.4 UAS radios as upgrades into earlier trucks or trucks with simpler trims. I would like to hear from those who: 1) have experienced...

Large item found inside flat tire

These examples are choice ! Closest I can come is when my wife called me while picking our daughters up after school. She thought she heard a sound like a dumpster lid banging shut, and suddenly her rear tire was flat. It wasn't too far from home, and I came and put on a spare for her. I...

    Cruise Control periodically won't work

I had my CC switch replaced under warranty at about 9700 miles, and today at about 47K miles it just went AWOL again. I pulled to the side of the road, turned off the truck, and restarted the truck, but CC still did not switch on. I got to my meeting, and after sitting two-and-a-half hours...

    $50 REWARD for solution - 97 Laramie 5.9 - DYING

to Prideless - I will be curious to hear what you find when you check the O2 sensors and their wiring. I know it's hard to figure an oxygen sensor can be the fault here, but there is a long shot that one of them is involved. I am totally unfamiliar with the '97's electrical diagrams, but I...

    TPMS sensor question

Your truck should recognize them in a very short time / distance. I installed winter tires with OE take-off rims back 2 years ago, and the first time the truck needed about a tenth of a mile to register all four sensors (OE Mopar). Changing back and forth since then, it has never taken more...
