I may actually consider de-badging my truck. I've always liked the look of the badges but they take up a ridiculous amount of real estate on my door. So much so that I couldn't fit the advertising for my business on the front door.
I'm running a 2011 1500 with a 4.7L V8 and 4x4 SLT for work. I routinely put anywhere from 1k to just under 2k in the bed and drive in all traffic conditions. My truck has never complained or given me any problems at @ 95k on the meter.

I'm not an expert on the newer ram tech, but it sounds like the park/neutral safety interlock is preventing the trans from shifting into gear. Try starting the vehicle in park and giving it a few seconds, then apply the brake for a couple seconds before shifting. Shot in the dark.
Devil's advocate: I would caution against using many aftermarket diff covers as there are many badly deigned ones (flat backs) that will leave your pinion shaft & gear starving for fluid at highway speeds. The factory diff cover is designed specifically to throw fluid over the pinion gear and...
