    Synthetic Oil

That was Valvoline synthetic 5W-30 in the silver/ gray bottle. Not conventional. I bought that car new in '98 and serviced it myself throughout the 22 years of ownership. I swapped out the LS1 for a factory LS6 as one of my retirement projects.

    Synthetic Oil

This was the oil pan from the LS1 engine out of my '98 Firebird Formula after 125K miles. I used Valvoline 5W-30 and did oil changes at regular 5000 mile intervals. I was shocked at the varnish/ soot coating on the inside of the oil pan. I have 52K miles on my 2500 Ram HD with the 6.4L and I'm...

Driver's side door window glass replacement

I installed my window last Thursday. The hardest part of the job was cleaning out all the broken glass from inside the door and there was quite a bit of it. I don't think Safelite would've taken the time to do that and I would've had to listen to out of tune maracas going down these bumpy...

Driver's side door window glass replacement

wholesalemopar.com cancelled the order because they don't ship glass. Another website online had glass in stock but stated local pickup only. For now I've had to go with non-oem glass. I'll start working on it later this morning.

Driver's side door window glass replacement

I called a local dealership in the high desert yesterday. There is no door window glass available in Southern Calif. For as many Ram trucks as there are on the road I find this absolutely ridiculous. I ordered a door window from wholesalemopar.com. We'll see how long that takes.

Driver's side door window glass replacement

I watched two YouTube videos and I feel confident about the window replacement. It's just the cost that's difficult due to a senior's fixed income. I'm fortunate I can still do this kind of work. I'm definitely going with OEM glass.

Driver's side door window glass replacement

I'm going to need some help. I'm a GM guy for the last fifty years and I still work on my own vehicles. Last night my driver's side door window was shattered in a smash and grab. I don't know if the alarm went off or not. This happened in a senior residence so noises may not have been heard...

New Ram owner. I crossed over. I may have made the wrong choice

When I hit 65 I had decisions to make and one of them involved a new HD truck. I've been GM all my life and I thought the new Chevy's were ugly. I just couldn't see looking at one all the time. I've been pleasantly surprised at the gas mileage this big truck gets considering the HD nature of...

    Best regular cab for offroad

My old Chevy K1500 EC didn't suit my needs for a tow vehicle. I knew I wanted an 8' bed but didn't want to drive a bus (CC) around. My regular cab suits my needs and actually has quite a bit of storage behind the seats even with my long legged 6'3" height. My 6.4L engine actually gets better...

    2018 RAM 2500 4x4 Tradesman - Shocks, gas mileage

I've owned my truck since new and I have 42K miles on the odo at this time. I think the 13-14 mpg I get is a gift. Years ago during my working career I had a Chev 2500HD utility truck with a 6.0L engine. That truck got 10 mpg no matter the driving conditions were. I have no complaints at all...

    Oil pressure

I would think with your expertise you could submit a bill for labor and parts that were the actual costs to repair your own vehicle. You have documented proof of sloppy, inept work by the dealer grease monkeys. They aren't techs by any sense of the word. I had a similar situation with my GM...

20" To 17" Wheels Any Pros?

I'll tell ya, I'm kinda tired of the bumpy ride I get with my 18's on desert roads. I was reading that the Power Wagons come with 17's and I think I want to go that route with an all-purpose tire when the time comes...soon.

First oil change for this 2500... went sweet! With a question too.

I find my truck with the 6.4L engine one of the easier vehicles to do an oil change with. I usually do the change at 5K and if I have to extend it for a longer period I change the filter and top off a quart until I can do the full maintenance.

    2018 6.4 Trans issue/question

Have you tried shifting manually? Rev the truck past 2K and hit the shift button. I like the way this 6 speed auto works and I shift manually most of the time and leave it in 4th and 5th around town. I also have 4.11 gears so that makes a bit of difference also.

    2018 6.4 Trans issue/question

Doesn't matter. I'm referring to having the engine at the low end of the power band and the trans is probably in 6th gear. It's going to lug like that. That's why I try to keep the revs up in lower gears so I have snappier acceleration.

    2018 6.4 Trans issue/question

I think you're lugging the engine in 6th gear. When I'm in town I manually shift the trans to 4th and/or 5th gear to keep the engine above 2K. I like keeping my 6.4L above 2K unless it's very light load situations on level or downhills.

    Magnetic drain plug capture

I think it makes more sense to change the filter in the middle of the oci rather than changing the oil in the middle of the oil filter change interval.

    Lifter Replacement.

I had a 1990 Chev 350 TBI engine with roller lifters that I wanted to use for a car project when I retired. It had low miles and I stored it in my garage until I was ready to use it. After I retired I made the decision to use that engine as a replacement for the 350 engine in my 1989 Chev...

What kind of mileage are you getting on your Hemi ?

I'm happy with my truck. Roughly 13 mpg light city and mostly highway driving. I've gotten up to about 17 mpg when the EVIC showed 19 mpg. When I tow it went down to about 10 mpg. I don't think it's too bad for a 2500 with a 6.4L engine.

Hemi Oil Filter, 2 part question

I think some of the filters talked about depend on geographic availability. When I bought my truck I found that the filters have the same threading as GM filters I used on my LS engine. I use the larger diameter K&N filter HP-2010 and it works well for me so far. I already have 20K miles on...

    Paintless Dent Removal

They have tools now that uses little pucks that glue on with hot melt glue to the dent to be worked. There's a jig that pulls the puck out and also it can be used with a dent puller with the correct attachment. Pop out the dent and no holes drilled or paint damage. I think it's a pretty trick...

    120 VAC plug on dash

I originally used the plug with an extension cord for a small electric pump to add air to single axle trailer tires on the one I was pulling. It worked fine for that. It hasn't seemed to work since that time however. I thought fuse F104 might be part of the circuit but the fuse still looks...
