    Weird smell upon start up

Check your alternator.I had random odors coming from it.It was slightly overcharging at times. And getting hot.

GM driver, looking at new Ram 1500, should I?

Nice to hear of a dedicated owner of so many of this brand of vehicles.I have my first Ram,a 2013 bought in 2019,111k.Presently at 226k and been a great truck.I've only owned two other mopars in my 50+ driving years.A 1966 Plymouth Fury lll.And a 1973 Duster.

GM driver, looking at new Ram 1500, should I?

I sold a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 118k on it when sold.Ended up with a 2013 Ram Express Hemi with 111k.Has 226k on it now with two waterpumps, two alternators and did brake pads once.Best driving riding, handling truck of any I've owned.I'm retired now,so I'm hoping it'll run as long as I need...

    issues after plug change

The computer resets and relearns and adapts to a certain extent to your driving style. Can remedy issues sometimes.A good reboot,is better than a good kick in frustration,to the fender, with your boot!

    issues after plug change

Disconnect battery cable for 10 minutes.Reconnect and drive normally for 2 to 3 days, let the computer relearn. After a few days, check fuel economy/ performance.Changing spark plugs alone, shouldn't ever give negative performance/ mpg.

    Check your intake manifold bolts

I've retorqued aluminum intake manifolds also. And cylinder heads. It's not an unusual thing to do.

    Check your intake manifold bolts

I got my truck with 111k,and bolts were loose.Torqued by hand. They do get loosened after a while. And at 111k, 2 of my sparkplugs were just screwed in till they stopped.I pulled all out and changed them anyway.

Startup clatter a week after first oil change...

Yes! Everytime my ol ladys car was put in the shop, mine would breakdown.I'd fix it...then she'd drive it.And I'd be out of a car till hers was fixed.Something not quite right about all this....

Startup clatter a week after first oil change...

A young feller at a tire store owns it.And loves it. Says when it quits he'll put a 6.4 hemi in it.You see, that truck knows he is prepared. If he wasn't, that motor would up and quit quick!

Startup clatter a week after first oil change...

I know of a 400k+ 3rd gen Ram 5.7,rattles like a diesel,or worse. All the time.Keeps running.Yet another hemi will have a noisy lifter and destroy the cam etc. This thing really sounds like every lifter is bad.

In that Duluth Ga location the convenience store owners around town, shop there in droves for their stores. And also Sams Club.Jam packed lines, then wait to get checked at the exit.My gawd!

I can buy premium at Costco cheaper than 89 is sold here for. They dont offer 89 at Costco. So I buy premium there, and mix 87 here if needed, and save money, and still end up with 89 gas overall.

    Some cool Chrysler history!!!

Back in the day Chrysler was at the forefront of automotive engineering.I believe that day has passed. Now it seems government and epa are all in charge of building cars.To stay in business, they all go along with it.It's us that gets screwed most times. As the old song says...The thrill is...

Startup clatter a week after first oil change...

Except for filtering media of synthetic or paper.A filter is a filter,I believe.I've had noisy engines before, and a filter never was the culprit.Crappy mass produced engines are the culprit.I just do reg oci and run'em till they won't go.Or get rid of the sorry engineered pos's.But that's just...

Startup clatter a week after first oil change...

I use Havoline pro ds 5w30 with Lubegard.Mileage is 222k.Engine was quiet for the first 175k or so.Now on cold startup I get right bank clatter most times for about 20 seconds.Warmer days barely noticeable but still there.I cut filter open, looks good.I'm gonna do a oil analysis soon to be...

More affordable with 87.My old 2013 Ram 5.7 manual states 89 preferred and 87 acceptable. The factory certainly made your 6.4 more affordable by only needing 87.I still run 89 as I grew up running 89 or higher gas and can't stop with the way my ocd works.lol

I saw a video once, that showed a 650hp vette on a dyno, running premium octane fuel.It was putting out those 650 horses too. Then they ran lower octane gas in it.The dyno eventually showed a 550 hp output on that fuel.Computers are smart

89,and 90+ octane compared to 87 just allows the computer to allow slightly advanced timing, that makes the engine have just a little better performance, allowing computer to up the timing. And it may result in slightly better, maybe a mile or so fuel economy. But then premium/ midgrade costs more.87...
