    Another one bites the dust

I'm a bit stiff, but no pains or bruises. It was actually a pretty smooth ride. But I was convinced I was going to roll. Yeah, it's going to be scrapped. Only question is how much I'll get for it. Hoping it's at least enough to pay cash for something else. Cop in the video didn't see the hit...

Nope, I'm fine. Just a little annoyed.

    Another one bites the dust

Hah! The adjuster who is going to look at the truck told me the system was VERY optimistic when it said the truck should be repairable. The thing only goes off mileage and whether the airbags deployed. She said when I tell her that part of a crossmember is now laying in the bed she doesn't...

    Another one bites the dust

Preliminary word from the insurance company is that it should actually be repairable just based on the age and mileage. But they do need to get a field adjuster to look at it to assess the level of damage.

What did you do to your Gen3 today?

Not today, but yesterday I had it pulled off a concrete barrier after getting t-***** at an intersection.

First-person view of the demise of my '04.

    Tire size

My '04 4x4 has 35-12.50R20s with just a leveling kit. It rubbed the fender liner a bit when I got it, but that's because the wheel offset is wrong. You'll probably be alright with 35s as long as you keep them tucked in like they're supposed to be instead of putting them on outriggers.

    Cheap winch bumper

Been needing to replace the bumper on my '04 since I bought the truck. Finally found a way to go super cheap, but still sturdy. That's ~7' of 10" C-channel. Going to put some pie cuts in the flanges so I can bend it to approximate the curve of the front of the truck. Should have plenty of room...

'04 1500 tow hooks and brackets

I need to replace the bumper brackets on my '04 1500 4x4. I want to add tow hooks while I'm at it. I'd also be willing to buy a decent chrome bumper as part of the deal, or separately. All the mounting brackets I find online say they are for W/O tow hooks, I don't know what the difference is.

    Frontend rebuild cost

My '04 squeaks and clunks like crazy on every tiny bump. I already know that basically everything is bad up front. Anyone have a ballpark idea what it costs to completely rebuild the front suspension on a 4x4? I don't have the time or tools to do it myself.

    Busted leaf spring

Got to tracking down a strange scraping sound on my '04 1500 this morning. Found out the middle leaf on the passenger side is busted and twisting out so that it rubs the inside of the wheel under some conditions. 1) I haven't found a source for new springs that inspires confidence. So I could...

What did you do to your Gen3 today?

Dropped it off at a shop. It had started marking its territory a little a few weeks ago, I haven't driven much while on medical leave so I wasn't worried. But then I came out from a job interview to see this tell-tale mess on the back bumper. Any leak bad enough to leave spots on the vehicle...

    All the little things

Superglue is one I've never run across before. That would definitely make me homicidal. You're right, none of the stuff I showed here looks terribly difficult or expensive to fix. Even the bumper brackets aren't that bad. My big worry is what I might find once I start chasing the extra wires...

How did I start this in the wrong forum? It was supposed to be in general discussion. That's what I get for posting sober.

    All the little things

I spent some time under the hood yesterday and found a slew of things needing fixed. Like most used vehicles, it's the little things that add up to a big mess. This ground wire is in serious need of some TLC. It comes off what I assume is the factory horn, but might be a PA speaker or add-on...

    Rough ride.

For a shop to say, "it isn't leaking, it must be fine" is about as silly as a doctor saying, "you aren't bleeding, you must be fine". There are seals and valves inside shocks that get worn and go bad over time. Even the old jump-on-the-bumper test doesn't diagnose every failure mode. Shocks are...

    Engine upgrade

I see I muddied the discussion by simultaneously mentioning my own truck. I know there was no 360 in '04, I was talking about the OP's '02. Who has the 545RFE? The OP said he has the NV3500. No controller there, a 5.9 would bolt right up and work fine. Seems I was misinformed about the ECM/PCM...

If you could have ANY truck, what would it be.

Do I have to choose? Anybody remember this show? Still the best looking lifted truck ever. Actually owned a clone at one point. Mine was an F-150, 460 under the hood and 38.5 Ground Hawgs. Maybe I watched too much TV as a kid. Who doesn't want one?

    Jeep Commanche concept

Funny thing is, I remember the commercials where they said, "It's about breaking with tradition"... and I always thought, "then why did you give it a traditional name?"

    Engine upgrade

I've been researching an engine swap for my '04 and I've found lots of interesting information that has me leaning towards a 5.9 swap. A lot of it depends on exactly what you want to accomplish and what your emissions requirements are. 1) It's been rumored that you can run a hemi with the 4.7...

Possible source for 20" Steel Wheels for 1500s...

They are back in stock now. Was waiting to grab a set when they came back, but been on medical leave from work and don't have the cash for it. Maybe I'll manage before they disappear again. Why no joy? I thought our trucks used the same wheel specs from '02 right up through today?
