What's better? 6.4L or the Cummins Diesel

The 6.4 reving high in a hard pull doesn’t scare me either. It’s where the Hemi makes max HP and Torque and it’s fine to use it there if needed. It’s the high rev tho that makes the Hemi super thirsty! To be transparent though, pulling 7400 trailer up La Veta pass I averaged 8.5-9.5 MPG on my...

What's better? 6.4L or the Cummins Diesel

I’m in Colorado. We have a 7700 GVWR RV, a small 3up ATV trailer. We already own a 19 Ram 1500 Classic 5.7 4x4. The truck is a very powerful cool machine. Last year I took a 3500lbs pop up from Colorado to Montana to Washington and back home. Power wise is did great. AVG MPG was around11-12...

    2006 5.9 mileage

I have a 2007 Dodge 2500 CTD 4X4 automatic with a decent lift. Running 315/70R17 Nittos, daily driver with tuning package that I rarely if ever use. I get 15.5 mpg city, 19-20 highway, and when towing my small toy hauler this past thanksgiving I got 8.9-9.5 mpg towing. Keep in mind I went up two...

2016 1500 Can I tow this trailer to my land ?

I agree with you, my pop up had a 4500 GVWR. I loaded the crap about of it and even filled the water tank before going to the mountains. The heaviest I ever weighed was 3900 pounds. GVWR listed on RV’s are difficult to go over on unless you’re absolutely careless. The hitch weight is the greater...

Tires for Towing (yes, another tire thread)

I got the same truck under arguably the same circumstances. At the time it towed my off-road pop up (4400GVWR) perfectly. I’ve since sold it and am awaiting delivery of a hybrid that has a 7200 GVWR. It will do for now. I called in the 3.21 to 3.92 gear swap and I’m not willing to budge. I have...

Tires for Towing (yes, another tire thread)

In my experience the metric you’re looking for isn’t subjective if you’re being specific to a engine. Example, Cummins 6.7 has a recommended load % of least 30% min or the engine will soot load. So using that % as a reference point for a 3/4 or one ton pick up, is as simple as translating it to...

Whos got the most miles on their 5.7?

2019 Ram Big horn 5.7L; 18300 miles. Drove it off the lot with 10 miles. 5000 of those towing my ATV and pop up trailer. Feels good to know I’ve done every oil change myself

    2019 Ram 1500 Classic; 5.7 Hemi; 3.21 gears, 6900# GVWR Towing Question

Yea makes sense. After my upgrades to the 1/2 ton Ram, towing my 2020 Somerset pop up feels overkill. Lol. I added bags and a Hellwig bar. I didn’t even use my WDH hitch at was towing down the freeway at 75mph. Trucks and tractors passing me, zero sway.

    2019 Ram 1500 Classic; 5.7 Hemi; 3.21 gears, 6900# GVWR Towing Question

Please tell me more. Is 6900 GVWR, or dry weight? Have you weighed it at a cat scale when you’re fully loaded and can you give me an idea of what that trailer and tongue weight was? Which trailer do you tow? Length?

Scary time to buy, but I just might do it

My pop up is awesome, but at the end of the day it’s still only a pop up, albeit a bad ass one lol

    2019 Ram 1500 Classic; 5.7 Hemi; 3.21 gears, 6900# GVWR Towing Question

Wow great info. I appreciate the reply. At the end of the day it isn’t the 7500 GVWR that concerns me so much as the giant wind sail it will create. I decided I’m going to keep my current PUP camper and not upgrade trailers until I upgrade my truck three years from now. I did add some things to...

    Upgrade sway bar

I run Hellwig with the OEM end links per Hellwigs suggestion. The bar itself is where the difference will be noticeable. The end links do nothing extra. Unless you’re end link boots are rotted and dry, don’t spend the extra money, add the Hellwig bar for stick ride height and watch it go.

Scary time to buy, but I just might do it

Hello Dave! Yea I’ve gone out twice over Ike pass, I like the formal campground @ Dillon Reservoir but unfortunately it’s always full. I guess people must book it out 6-8 months ahead of time. We also like the KOA in glenwood right off the river. Other that that we boondock a lot. I’ve camped...

Scary time to buy, but I just might do it

I have a 19 Ram 1500 5.7 W/3.21 gears. Performance wise it kicks ass and still gets me 17-18 mpg city, 20-20.5 highway. I only tow a large pop up during camping season, but live in Denver, Colorado and climb over the Ike pass or up to near 8000-9000 feet when i camp. Fully loaded my camper...

Scary time to buy, but I just might do it

With the 0 apr for 84 months they have been slinging around. Just get the 5.7 Hemi with 3.92 gears. Unless you’re towing heavy stuff all the time, you’d at least max out the capabilities of a 1/2 ton truck. Just my .02 cents,

    First Travel Trailer trip

Agreed on tires. I’m a fleet guy, tires, coolant issues and battery issues are what we see consistently go wrong with our tractor trailers, in that order. If my pop up hadn’t come with nice off road tires I would have ripped them off immediately. The Jayco I want comes equipped with new Goodyear’s

    2019 Ram 1500 Classic; 5.7 Hemi; 3.21 gears, 6900# GVWR Towing Question

Awesome thanks for the reply. The wind sail part is not my highest concern. Both our truck weigh nearly the same and the upgraded gear won’t make a difference in how the vehicle is being swayed or pushed, but I really appreciate your voice on the transmission gears with the higher end gear. I...

First off, you’re wrong, they are not bump stops. It’s a hollow rubber spring. Bump stops are what is on there before you add the Timbren Suspension Enhancement. I’ve been around airbags in class 8 vehicles my whole life, and if you think air bags keep trucks from braking suspension components...

Dealership has no idea what’s wrong - Help!

you could use a scope, that will see everything in real time but few people have the experience to use it properly. If it’s intermittent, one of two things are possible. 1. A hard wire short to ground that is occurring with truck vibration. 2. A shorted FET in one of the modules that causes...

    First Travel Trailer trip

Your argument is irrelevant. At the end of the day, EVERYTHING in the suspension system rests on the axle housing man. All of it. I’m not trying to increase his load or tell him to haul ass in any manner, but for what he’s after, and what he’s hauling, he isn’t altering the OEM ride when not...
