Not to insult anyone.....but if I wanted high mileage I wouldn't have bought a truck... I love the truck I have and it gets about 16 if I baby it acording to the lie-o-meter.. but I really don't care....I LOVE the truck period.... If I want mileage I take my Harley out for a spin..
I have had over 50 vehicles over the years, motorcycles, cars, trucks, 4 wheelers . Too many to count but I am an old fart... great grand kids say "older that the dirt in their front yard"
My battery tenders (3) are on all my toys and each one is plugged into a wall timer. tenders are active for 8 hours each day and off 16 hours. I have used this method for 18 years and no problems yet and this more than doubles the battery life of all of them.
Say Burla why can you not rebuild the motor ? I have rebuilt many engines over the years with great luck. Boiled and flushed and magna flux the blocks , total resurface and rebuilt the heads 3 angle valve job new guides etc... turn crank all new innerds cam bearings timing chains and gears etc...
You might try to reset the PSM to see if it will help..

I never use the mds... I always lock it out and I get 21.5 mpg on the highway banging on all 8 cylinders... If I had wanted a 4 banger I would have bought one.. case closed... to each their own as they say...

When I was a mechanic back in 1969 warranty work and customer pay was different but in about 1974 it was changed to identical pay wise. There used to be a difference but not anymore.. I would get 6 hours for a warranty transmission overhaul and 12 hours for customer pay but they changed that...
If I had known about the cam/lifter /MDS issues before I bought my 2018 Ram big horn 5.7 I probably would have passed the truck up... But I do love the truck just worried how long it will be before Mine eats the cam and lifters.. I drive it in manual ALL the time so hope that will save me that...
