Its the ABS pump, very common issue with the 2018 models. Parts can be very hard to find. Its called the Hydraulic control unit and the part is currently $786 on Mopar. It's often not even in stock. Mine died in October of 23 and the dealer said it had been months since they could get the part...
That part is 780 now damn. Best I can tell based on tons of research is the AB pump is that part that goes bad. It sits right on top of the front driver wheel well so that might be an issue.
While I have not yet replaced it, the part is very easy to get to and there should be some youtube...
It could be related to the ABS pump which is a common failure on rams. You need to take it to a dealer and run the codes, or buy a OBD Link code reader and use AlphaOBD. A standard code reader will not pull the codes if its ABS related.
It has factory air suspension and upgraded running boards. Which I guess is the extra 60 lbs. When I was shopping for the truck there were some higher trims with 1800 lbs of payload.
The issue is payload. The tongue weight on that trailer will be at least 750 lbs, potentially up to 900. If you get one with 1700 lbs of payload you will be ok, but some trims are 1400 lbs or less which would not be ideal.
Here is my truck on the scale with two adults and 3 small kids. I have 1660 available payload, and 2800 lbs available on the rear axle.
And here is my most recent weigh with a 33 ft TT. I actually have to be careful not to overload the truck bed with gear, I weighed in once time about 200...
You are correct, its 6k each for 12k total. What I meant to say is with the truck on the scale there is about 3000 lbs of available weight on the rear axle.
The payload sticker on my 2500 cummins, tradesman model is 2200 lbs. Given the tradesman model has less accessories the higher trims this is about the best you will get.
Some people claim the 2500 is nerfed at 10,000 GVWR which may be true, but the rear axle has a max weight rating of 3k lbs...
I see she already safely made the trip which is great. For the future the payload capacity is really the limiting factor for towing.
6800 GVWR - 5780 dry truck weight - 150 for your daughter = 870 lbs of cargo capacity.
870/0.15 for the trailer tongue weight = 5800 lbs. So that's your...
Mine went out in September and I was told March for a part. I searched online for new parts at least once a week and they were back in stock in late November. Only part was AA, new part is AB. So far I have not had any issues, but I have not driven it that much either.
I took apart the old...
I find it somewhat hard to believe that the update has no effect on performance, if that were the case why did they not do it to start. There has to be a tradeoff somewhere.
Regardless, I agree with what you have said. I have no issue getting the update and I want to do my part to help the...
Mine just got back from the shop with a new part, same truck. It cost me a lot more then what you were quoted to fix, something I am not too happy about. Two months ago I was told the part was on indefinite backorder, but Mopar has them in stock now. I bought a spare part two weeks ago for when...
I have a cummins truck because I tow a travel trailer all summer, however it's not a practical truck of around town driving. City gas millage is really bad and its huge. So I bought an EV bolt for local trips.
In theory I could trade both my truck and Bolt in for the ramcharger. It has more...
I only plug in if it calls for temps below 25 degrees in the morning. I think the manual says you do not need to plug in until you hit the low teens. Make sure you use a timer of some sort because the heater uses 1000 watts. I set it to turn on 3 hours before I need to drive the truck.
However...
I expect TFL and many other youtube channels to put this truck through its towing paces. I would not be an early adopter, but there is a ton of potential here.
I have the standard cummins and I can easily get over 20 MPG highway. I tracked the real MPG compared to the computer for about a year and found the computer was always about 1 MPG high.
This is the solution to those of us that Tow. I do not drive much and 100 miles of EV range will work for 99% of non towing commutes. Then when I basically get a gas vehicle. If this had a small diesel engine in it, I would want it even more, but I know that does not make any sense.
Damn, this is the 4th new thread I have read on this just today. Mine is currently a local Diesel shop with the same issue. Look at my comment history for some links that may help to fix.
I agree with your frustration though, this is my first and likely last Ram truck for this reason...
My 2018 cummins 2500 is in the shop right now for this issue. They are replacing it with a used part.
THis thread has some more details on the issue. I also found this company, xemodex which will repair your HCU. I have not used them, but if this happens again, or the Diesel shop can not repair...
It likely your ABS pump, it seems to be a common issue sadly. My 2500 is currently at an independent Diesel shop waiting for a used part. If you search around some people are on their 3rd pumps. The dealer told me it would be February at best before I could get a new part, and searching around...
My cummins is currently in the shop for this issue. The code said the ABS module. You need a good scanner like the OBDLink and AlfaOBD (its an app on your Android phone, not sure about Apple). This will give you the exact code.
For my truck the ABS modules are hard to come by, but you should be...
If this thing can tow my 33 ft travel trailer I could see replacing my 2500 cummins with this truck. Especially if the payload capacity is 2200 lbs. The high torque electric motors provide the same type of power the diesel does, and the regen brakes effectively work the same as the diesel engine...
