It's been a minute! How are all y'all?

Hey! I'm BACK, with some fresh 2005 Ram 1500 4.7L issues for your amusement! Missed y'all! Did you miss me? 159k miles on it. After I replaced the ECM the truck ran great til now even with P0456. I know, I know, "change the VLD thing already!" Has it really been two anti-problematic...

2005 1500 4.7L cranks, start, sputters and dies.

UPDATE: P0456 had nothing to do with the crank/sputter/die mode. The fuel pump had gone out! I was just fortunate that I made it home that day. About 2 weeks later the code came back. I had already replaced the gas cap, so replaced the purge solenoid. About 2 weeks later the code is back...

2005 1500 4.7L cranks, start, sputters and dies.

No CEL at the moment, but it did have P0456, which I cleared, which made the condition worse. Prior to the code presenting, the exhaust smelled rich to me, and it seemed to be all of a sudden getting crap for gas mileage on that last little highway jaunt. I made it home after the CEL came...

    Mystery Part!

That's what I was afraid of. I have the battery disconnected, of course. Ugh. Ok thanks.

    Mystery Part!

A moment of stunned silence. omg. Thank you, though. It was seriously just hanging loose in there. Do you happen to know what that yellow connector under the steering wheel is for? That crumbled when I tried to unplug it. The plastic was just very brittle. I didn't mess with it today but...

    Mystery Part!

I don't know why those pictures posted twice. I KNOW I only uploaded them once. :-/ My apologies.

    Mystery Part!

Troubleshooting NO CRANK, still again, whatever --- I had to have it towed home the last time I drove it and now having time to work on it. I found this mystery part dangling inside my console under the steering column. I was able to determine that the numbers there refer only to the...

    C-Codes

Great. I just replaced the battery on my 05 1500 and it was purring like a kitten. Solved a lot of problems. No hunting, no surging, idle was at 1100 steady. The third start the idle dropped to 900 (still steady) and it threw a code for that, which I fully expected to clear itself. It had...

    No crank. ECU?

Delco braided ground straps are less than $10 on amazon. I hope Delco isn't a bad word on this forum lol. My other great love is a Chevy lol.

    No crank. ECU?

So sorry I didn't see your question. Yes I have my wheel well liner off. It goes on the shield under the passenger compartment and to a bolt on the manifold. It was not as difficult to reach as the crankshaft position sensor, but I would not have known that strap was broken if I had not been...

    No crank. ECU?

I found that the same ground strap fractured on mine and replaced it. I found it when I was replacing the crankshaft position sensor. It did affect my cranks. I took it back off to clean the connection better and checked just for grins and got no crank while it was off.

How to Install Replace Transmission Pan 2003-2009 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L

1A youtubes have been very helpful to me at different times with different vehicles. I am so happy to have this resource and thank you for the forum for allowing these posts.

Nice! That's a great look on yours. Mine needs new shoes, too.

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

Does nobody know what they connect to? It's raining so I won't be able to crawl around under the truck today. I cannot find any unoccupied connections under the hood, though. I think if I have to replace the whole thing, it is 3/8" tubing the same as windshield washer tubing.

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

I found the TSB but it is more just about rerouting the PCV, not the whole evap tubing assembly. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/25-001-06.htm

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

No diagram, but getting closer to the answer, maybe. I have both of them I don't know quite where they go or reconnect to. One was disconnected and the other is melted. https://www.ramforum.com/threads/melted-evap-tube-help.71799/

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

Yes, that is the purge valve they are still attached to. The other end of both those tubes is where I found them disconnected and melted, by the firewall. I don't know where they go to. I am looking for a routing diagram for the vacuum supply hoses. I haven't found that in this service...

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

I downloaded the 2005 RAM factory service manual, but some of the drawings I am looking at in there are difficult.

The plastic sleeve was also melted but more like something corrosive had dripped on it, probably PS/ATF.

    04 to 05 PCM swap

I went on and made my own thread under general discussions. I had already (maybe twice) done the disconnect, charge and reset, but I had been tossing around the idea of a new battery, too. It did test ok with the voltmeter, but I don't know how old it is. Go on and look at what I found today...

This is the other end of those, going into that small cannister by the fusebox in the front of the engine.

    Vacuum line? 2005 4.7L 1500

Sorry, I was in somebody else's PCM thread and I didn't mean to hijack that. I figured I best make my own. The last advice I got was to disconnect and recharge the battery and reset. I have already done that and I still had P0633. I can do it again, though. I ordered a scanner so maybe I can...

    04 to 05 PCM swap

Yes I was able to drive it for about 3 weeks, and the last week or so there it sits. I was trying to find all the grounds and improve them, yes. It "feels" to me very much like an electrical problem. My Ford did this when it's key fob battery went dead. And my Chevy did this over a loose...
