    P0052 - 5.7 - heater circuit high - new sensors

Just FYI for anyone that runs across this issue, one possibility (in my very particular case), was the original tuner turned off both oxygen sensors on bank 2. With them turned off, there is no need to heat them and hence started my issues. Instead of lugging around my cumbersome laptop, last...

    P0052 - 5.7 - heater circuit high - new sensors

D a m n, this sounds like a problem I have been having for a couple of years (looking at old data logs) but only recently noticed and started to tackle - truck has a SRT 392 with small cam (rough idle and rich fuel due to off-road y masked the fact that there was a problem), I didn't notice...

    5th Gen 1500 Transmission swap in a 4th Gen 1500

V6s come with the 845. If you’re trying to save money, my vote still goes for LKQ - they come with a warranty and you can purchase extended warranties.

    5th Gen 1500 Transmission swap in a 4th Gen 1500

Unless you're pushing the limits of the 8HP70, instead of a rebuild, I would grab a used 8HP70 from LKQ online. You or your mechanic would pull the TCM from your shuddering transmission and put that in the unit received from LKQ, then simply R&I the transmission. There should be a...

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

When checking levels, the dipstick was removed, sitting around 12" out of the tube. It was then pulled, wiped, and re-inserted.

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

My truck does not have active grill shutters but if I did, that definitely would be a contributing factor. I had to switch from the slatted sport grille to the open honeycomb design and that did wonders as well.

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

I already admitted to overthinking this back in post #116. If they could provide the volume fluctuation, I would re-evaluate my decision, but they basically told me to figure it out and as previously stated, that turned me off of their product. I am definitely not looking to further complicate...

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

I’m quite familiar. If the piston bottoms out, that is bad, that means it is hydraulically locked, they explain that in the instructions, page (2) last paragraph of accusump fundamentals. They also state that the precharge of air pressure is set at 7-10#. Do you still not think the volume is...

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

The volume fluctuates, the other side of the piston is the air spring which pushes the oil out and you have to pre-charge it with air. That side compresses.

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

I’m good with the actuation, I am worried about the fluctuation of oil volume in the active system. They wouldn’t give me numbers on how much the volume would swing at various pressures (50-70# range), just told me it’s probably online and to look for it. If you set your system capacity at idle...

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

I had stated that the entire oil cooler would drain back to the pan and that the level would be higher than it should be. If someone followed that advice with a similar setup and their anti-drain back valve was functioning correctly, they could be overfilling the system. When deciding on check...

392 Swap - High Oil Temps - What Would You Do?

Recently I have been doing more research into a check valve or accusump system to help keep the oil cooler full under cold starts so I can reduce the amount of time until full oil pressure is achieved minimizing wear and I just wanted to clarify something about this quoted statement -...

If You’ve Tried Everything Diagnosing Your Suspension’s Squeak and Still Can’t Figure It Out, Try This

I used those on my stock diff, they were awesome (Valvoline syn 75w-140) but they don’t make them for the 85w-140 unfortunately, or at least none I could find. I’m running a TrueTrac which they don’t recommend synthetic. It’s probably outdated guidance as diff design is very old but my opinion...

If You’ve Tried Everything Diagnosing Your Suspension’s Squeak and Still Can’t Figure It Out, Try This

I have been running down everything on my suspension for well over a year. I was hearing what sounded like a little chirp, convinced it was a metal-on-metal squeak, whenever I would go over bumps in the road. It was driving me nuts. I had checked sway bars, shocks, shock bushings, spring...

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

Yes sir, TrueTrac. I will have to do more research on the mineral vs synthetic, I found an old BITOG thread with good information. I’m sure they were fearing synthetics with friction modifiers and reducing bias ratio. We’ll see which way I’m swayed after more research.

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

Just picked up the truck from the shop, the noise is gone. I asked him if there was anything specific that was wrong and he said it was just a well worn unit, nothing in particular. He didn’t do a deep dive as we were replacing it all anyway. Pattern looks great and he said backlash was 0.006”...

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

The 4 link control arm bushings? I agree they're a weak link in factory form. When those act up, which should be soon (but hopefully I can make it to next summer), they will be replaced with Core adjustable arms and bushings.

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

I just got off the phone with the guy and he wants to look at it and see what all it needs but he is saying worst case (assuming nothing wrong with housing, just internals) with a new gear set and Truetrac differential, it is about $2,100. That is only about $600 more than a heavily used (142K...

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

I’ll look into it some more but with the pig of a truck (full weight crew cab with stereo) and some sticky tires, I don’t think 3.92s would be all that worthless, but I’ll dig a bit deeper.

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

I am just going to look at the difference in cost and see if that justifies a truetrac.

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

I have a feeling buying a used axle will be the cheaper of the two but I’ll update once the shop has time to diagnose and quote.

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

Didn’t have a chance to talk to shop today but wanted to capture noise under vehicle and make sure it was rear axle related and not transmission related. Definitely rear axle. https://youtube.com/shorts/TceOIG5MbL8?si=Ci-rm9s0Xzw4grPL https://youtube.com/shorts/PZs1-NPOq6s?si=49pf1PaVBQ4GFHRE

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

The transmission side and driveshaft felt fine but I think I am going to let the local shop take a look. I just drove it down the block and yup, noise is still there with the new outer wheel bearings. It does it with the **** end lifted so at least I know it’s nothing in the front. I am going...

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

Well, it’s looking more and more like a well worn rear end. https://youtu.be/mEKFpYV-mmU?si=cl1Lf2ez8_QsH1Rw https://youtu.be/PL97khNaD3g?si=2cN3T6AOQgN1fppU

    Whining/Growl Noise - Differential/Wheel-Bearing/Transmission (output shaft)

More than I would care to dump in I'm sure. All of those suspension components did not look cheap, plus the ported blower. Maybe he will give away the whippled f-150 next...again...
