Nice touch! Did you use the VHT Nightshades?

I actually just took it the the same place that does all my window tinting. I have a few things I still need to do to my truck and no time so I figured I would pay to have it done.

Its a 'gunsmoke' shade. It is the lightest shade they had. The medium actually looked brown in color and the dark was called 'blackout' and I didn't want to go that dark.

It's a little lighter than I initially wanted but darker than I thought it would be when I chose the tint. All in all I'm very happy with it though.

Do you still have the stock bulbs? if so is the light output still okay?

I have the stock LED tailights so my output is still really good. They claim it only reduces light ouput by 7%. The noticable difference are my backup lights.

Did they offer to trim out the backup lights? I couldn't do without those around here. It's a little dark in the morning when I back out of my driveway!

Very jealous of you guys that have 13-14 models that have LED lights :(

I'm dying to buy a nice set of LED smoked tail lights to match my black truck. Any tails that are tinted look great.

I did mine with VHT Niteshade. Two coats and cut out the backup lights. It was easier than I thought. Happy I cut out the reverse lights. I'm sure any shop would do this for you.

They didn't offer & I didn't ask. I'm sure they would have if I asked but I wanted to see how much light was restricted the way they are.

Good job.
Wow, those are dark. Will the police give you any grief on the taillights being so dark like that?

No grief yet.

It's been a month or so. I've had cops behind me and not been pulled over.

They are a little lighter in the direct sunlight and the LED lights still shine through pretty good.

I don't anticipate any problems.

No worries. Looks good. I just think it's a lot better look with all three done. When the third brake light isn't touched but the tails are tinted it makes it stand out and doesn't look as smooth to me.

I completely agree. Having all 3 done definitely makes the entire back of the truck flow a lot better and blend in nicely.

Question for you & others...I've done this before so I may do this...versus paying someone $100-$200. My question is was there any prep, sanding involved? I see you did 2 coats of VHT and then clear. Is VHT local (Autozone? or need to be ordered). I guess thats more than 1 question lol. Just trying to decide if I can do this myself. Thanks! Oh...will standard painters tape suffice for the clear windows (rever/cargo lights)?
