So I was driving around all over Savannah yesterday morning and then all of a sudden from a dead stop my Ram wouldn't get up and go like usual. It was really sluggish until about 45mph but then it wouldn't switch into the next gear. It won't go in 2nd unless you manually drop it and not into 1st at all. So, I stopped into a local parts store and a local city worker you services all of the police deptment's Chargers who just happened to be there said he would hook it up to his scanner to see what was going on. It pulled at least 5 different codes for the trans. He cleared them and said to take it for a spin. I did to which I had the same problem. I took it back to him and he re-scanned it only to have 1 code show up. He then said he had done all he could and that my best bet was to call Dodge and see if they could work something out since it's out of warranty at 51,000 miles. They politely said "no". But as I drove the truck home, it stopped doing it and ran fine. My wife has stated it has done that with her once before, but I assumed it's because she rarely drives it.

So, I turn to you guys to help me out. I'm imagining that it's some kind of electrical problem since it came and went. Anyone have this problem with their's and what it took to fix it? Thanks in advance.

BTW I'm going to later unhook the battery and crawl under the truck and unplug and clean every connector I can find in hopes to clear the problem.

Sounds like a shift solenoid. I know they arent hard to replace in the Gen2 transmissions...not too sure on the Gen3's.

I'm with Somke. Sounds like a solenoid going out and throwing the truck into "limp" mode. It does this so you can get it to a shop without tearing it up worse. Our Jeep did this and it ran about $650 for the new solenoid packs and labor at the dealer.

Thanks guys. That's what my research has led me to also. Seems those are the first thing to go in these trucks. Great feeling that I've only put a little over 6000 miles and have to start dropping money into it. I've also read that the torque converter is another problem. Is there anything else to watch for with the trans?
