Your 1/2 frame and suspension won't hold up under the weight of that Cummins. They weren't designed to.

You'd be better off getting a 2500 with the Cummins package.

I somehow doubt that the Cummins is so much heavier that it would collapse the frame. I can see that you'd probably need new springs up front.

It's been done on 3rd gen 1500s, so I'd think it could be done on a 4th gen. But how much are you willing to spend? Would likely be cheaper to go with an Eco Diesel.

And apparently it's been done to a 4th Gen as well:

Not to mention trying to get all the electrics and body modules to work with the diesel setup, this type of swap seems prohibitively expensive to me.. just get a 2500 with want you want and be done with it.. much cheaper

I don't agree that a 2500 is the answer either, I couldn't own one at the moment. The ride is far too harsh for a daily driver, and I can't afford 2 trucks. Besides, putting a Cummins in is no different than guys building 600+ hp Hemi's. Just a different kind of mod.

My 09 2500 was a great truck but would beat you to death on bad roads and it wasnt practical for me to use it as a DD as it only got 12-17 mpg which isn't the best considering i had to travel 50-60 a couple times a week.
My 16' 1500 is a much smoother ride and i can get up to 23 mpg if im easy on the throttle. Plus i can still tow a trailer if i need to.
