114,000 miles and NO TRANS MAINTENANCE...?[emoji15]

That is really cool that you have had so many trouble free miles sir.

But that many miles with no trans fluid and filter changes is nothing to be proud of. You NEED to tread lightly with trans maintenance now.

Like a slow blood transfusion

I toe a 3000 lb travel trl. Maybe 3000 miles so far. Will have trans checked at next oil change. Around 7000 miles between changes and tire rotation. Run penzoil full synthetic. No way to check trans. Fluid. No dip stick. Heard trans. Fluid is suppose to lifetime but I don't buy that. I do courier work in FL. And Ga. Thanks for replys

Just turned 114000 miles on my 18 ram no problems. Just maintance. Replaced tires and brakes at 60000. No maintance done on trans. Replaced brake fluid. Mostly highway miles.

Daaaang. I just barely clocked past 30k on my 2017 6-banger.

Good to see that the motor holds up nicely :)

Like @FXCLMS says, you might want to do some looking around in the forums. The 8-spd ZF tranny you got has no dipstick, for starters. It's supposed to be zero-maintenance, fully sealed.

There are ways to swap out the filter and fluid, but it is very specific, and very, very particular as to how you do this without risking a busted transmission.

No dip stick, and fully sealed is part of the reason the fluid is supposed to last so long.

I don't have a V6/8 speed combo. But if I did, and ran a lot of highway miles, and there were no symptoms, I'd be real tempted to not change the fluid. At least not yet. It's supposed to be lifetime..... I know, ZF recommends 60,000 maintenance intervals. I'll bet that under harsh conditions.

Has anyone ever trashed an 8 behind a Pentastar?

The 2018 maintenance schedule shows Tranny changes at 60,000 mile intervals. I know it says 6 speed automatic only but does that refer to filter(s)? Maybe 6 speed has more than one? I'll do it when it gets time filter and 8 speed or not.

That is specific to the 6 speed. Idk what page it’s on, but somewhere in that section it also says the 8 speed is a lifetime fluid fill and does not call for fluid and filter service unless the transmission is opened up and drained for some reason. I understand being skeptical of lifetime fluid specs, just be prepared the 8 speed isn’t a typical fluid and filter change. The pan and filter are integrated so the whole pan has to be replaced, and the fluid fill procedures are very specific.

Random, just curious, what are your plans for maintenance on your trans.

As well as us in the Syn thread. We are well versed it.

With That many miles on a trans that has never had a change it would be wise to be very cautious doing them.

Around mile 75000 or so, I intend to bone-up on the subject as much as possible, then yoink it out, get it on a stable, level surface, and give it a go with replacing filter and fluid.

From what I've seen so far, it looks a bit... involved.

Think I'm gonna go with the lifetime a little longer. My driving is about 90% highway. I will check with my dealer maint. Recommend change if any. 150000 miles turned yesterday. Thanks for all of your replys
