So I've had my truck now for about 2 months. 2011 Longhorn crew. I've been led than impressed with the ride quality so far. First it wanders..Not sure why...I was thinking I needed new shocks, feels almost like an old Cadillac. Also the rear just thuds..over bumps, really no absorbing at all. Again thinking maybe some new bilstein well help. I recently noticed that this truck in the past has had a 5th wheel hitch in the bed. I'm now wondering if the previous owner installed a stiffer springs.. Is there anyway to tell by looking at them?

well thats a bummer, if he had a 5th wheel hitch he was towing a 5th wheel which im sure was stressful on a 1500... crawl under the and try to find a part number on the springs and see what you find.

Ya my third gen rides like a covered wagon compared to my dad's 2012, and my buddies 15. That thing should ride like a car... id say its been messed with. Should be able to tell pretty quick if the springs aren't oe.

I'm thinking you're right about the shocks. The rear end "thud" sound like it bottoming out and hitting the stops. If the PO had installed heaver springs it likely wouldn't bottom out.

How would I tell? I was thinking that he could have just installed 2500 series springs, is that possible? I'll go crawl under and see what I find.

I have stock springs and a set of bilsteins 5100 for the rear I'd ship you for a small fee. If you want of course. The shocks are pretty low mileage. I didn't do anything crazy with the truck. They're not leaking or anything. They look almost new. The springs have 30k miles on them. Hell maybe the shocks too. I forget when I put them on. It was pretty early on in the game though.

I don't have that truck anymore. I have a 2011 Longhorn 1500.

So after going out to look under the truck I have to assume that the stops are longer than they need to be. I can bottom them out by jumping in the rear bumper. ae920a978aceaf6f048db854bc167e56.jpg

So now I'm curious why he would have these installed with such little travel available? Do you think it's safe to say that there are stiffer springs as well? So I guess if I buy standard length stops problem will be solved.

Sounds like it was abused and it's a 4.7.

I thought they might be but I thought timbrens were suppose to improve the ride and not be a hard stop?
