So here's my conundrum:

While accelerating there's an audible droning noise heard inside the cab of the truck. It sounds like it's coming from the wheel well. It only does it at exactly 1600 rpm while it's in gear. It doesn't do it when you turn the wheel to the right. Could it be the rack and pinion failing? It does clunk and pop whenever I'm reversing and turning to the left. I am planning on replacing the rack and pinion on it soon anyway and was hoping that the drone/vibrating noise was the steering bushings going out. Any ideas? I can post a video to YouTube and link it in the comments if you need audio help.

Much appreciated for any advice! (Trying to save myself a diagnostic fee at a shop)

Sounds like a bad CV joint in the front (assuming its 4WD). That would give you a clunk.1st check would be check for a cracked grease boot. The rack & pinion would only make noise while turning the steering wheel.

It could be a wheel bearing, could be belt tensioner/ idler pulley or any other pulley locking up. if 4wd cv shaft as the guy above mentioned. could be a u joint. carrier bearing. keep in mind sound can travel. best way to check pulleys is to remove belt and see if any have slop or too stiff to turn. wheel bearings, jack the front of your truck up, spin the wheel if it feels like it grabbing or grinding replace. u joints and carrier bearing, grab a hold of the drive shaft shake it up and down and left to right, any movement, replace or look at your u joints and look for a rust ring around the caps. If you are doing the work, check items as described. If you are having a shop do it, you may be better off paying the fee. You could be having just one issue or you could be having multiple.

Let me clarify. It's 2WD.
