JTB - not trying to hijack your thread, have a question that’s in your subject.

How much weight difference is there between 17” vs 20” rims? Currently have stock 20’s. Considering aftermarket rims when these tires need replacing. Just wondering how much less they weigh.

From my research, 20s weigh about 14# more. Each. You’d be better off keeping the 17s for $$ and mileage.

I'd stay with the 17s..... My other trucks still have 15s which are getting hard to find.
You still need to be more concerned with overall tire height, more than than rim size.
You can find the same diameter tire in a 17 as you can a20. Alot of people get too hung up on wheel size thinking that is what gives you a "bigger" tire but it isn't, necessarily.

You bring a VERY interesting thought to the table. I know the 20 inch gen 4 wheel weighs in at 37lbs without a tire. It would be interesting to see how both combos compare. Because less rotation mass as you are saying better mpgs.

I wanted different wheels but found better load rated(3195lbs) Michelins in 17,really kick myself a year later for the size 265/70B35DC4C7-9129-4AB4-8AD8-13E4011EFC5F.jpeg16373CCC-E58C-4A17-AE72-845A69712B7E.jpeg when the lift kit made the expensive tires look puny.

Like I posted earlier, if you are using exactly the same rim, the 20" will weigh 8-15 lbs more than a 17. However, the same outside diameter 20" tire is lighter than a 17" tire, so the 20" combination is not really all that much heavier. Most 20" combos end up being 3-5 pounds per tire/Rim heavier than the 17". There are actually far bigger variations in weight by design and make of a Rim and the design and make of a tire than you get due to rim and tire size. Also, increasing the outer diameter of a tire causes the overall weight of that tire to go up dramatically. So for example a 37" on an 18" Rim weights a whole lot more than a 32" on the same rim.

If you dont need the higher load ratings that you get out of 18” wheels and up

Go with 17’s. Hands down.

Once you get to 18’s the load ratings go up a good amount over 17’s for identical diameter tires with the same “load range” . Like an E for instance
