Brand New Guy, Just bought a 1994 1500 with the 5.2L "Magnum" v8 engine, i think its the '318 Magnum' but I'm still learning things.

Transmission has an issue when reversing; it tends to stall if i don't give it enough gas. it's an automatic.

To me, I'd guess it's an issue with the clutch plates or something, but i don't really know anything, so that's why I'm here, haha.

Hope you guys can help me pinpoint the issue and figure out how to fix it.
Looking forward to posting lots and learning lots, and maybe in the future, helping others learn too.
Cheers!

The transmission stalls? or the motor stalls?

the low forward/reverse clutch pack is the same clutch pack, the only difference is the band that holds the drum...but your torque converter is what prevents your engine from stalling no matter what gear you might be in.

Odd that this only happens in reverse.

I don't suspect transmission problems as much as some other issue. Best to have a reputable shop look at it to be sure.

I recently purchased a 1996 2wd 5.2L Auto transmission equipped, with extended cab and short bed 1500 pick up with 246k miles. The truck exhibited like complaints as yours.
The engine responded nicely to a full tune up. I have inspected and performed trans tests to include replacing trans filter and fluid, and included: checking hydraulic pressures and adjusting linkages. unfortunately my findings reveal a complete trans rebuild is necessary.
It may reward you to search for no cost inspections from local trans shop specialists. Try to get a couple inspections for comparing parallel answers.

Thanks Guys, this sounds a bit like what some other peoplehave been telling me, that :
These transmissions start going around 200,000 miles, right where she's at now.
Also: that the tranny fluid should probably be checked.
Appreciate the time and effort guys. Cheers!
