Im new to the Ramforum and want to say thanks for having me and thanks for all the good info that I have already fount by just looking around. Now here goes, I have a 1996 dodge ram 4x4 with the 318. When I bought it the guy said it needed a torque converter so I bought a new one and installed the tranny with new filter. After I got it installed it will only go into drive and will drive but I just moved it around the yard and parked it. It has no reverse or anything, just park and drive.. What can cause this, is the whole tranny shot?

Is the linkage hooked up correctly? I'd verify that and the fluid level before driving yourself crazy.

Could also need the reverse band adjusted (hopefully the band isn't broken). It could be a number of things, hopefully it is something simple though.

If the linkage is good and the fluid level is good, you can drop the pan and adjust the reverse band yourself. The procedure is outlined in the Chilton manual.
