Hey there just picked up my first ever truck and first ever Mopar! Scored a beauty 2017 ram 1500 limited 4x4 with 33k miles! I've read up a bit on the Ole hemi tick and how idle hours hurt and bad oil change habits. Wanted to see how my hours add up to some others. Never had a vehicle with a way to check it so it's pretty neat.

Welcome to the forum. That's about 9% idle which is pretty good, it's where my 2017 is. The only time I idle is while in traffic. Check out the Synthetic Oil thread, link below, hemi's like Moly, Molybdenum (sp??), so be sure to use pennzoil ultimate platinum, redline, quaker state ultimate durability (full syn) or others with moly.

Congratulations on your new truck and the research you did with the hemi's!
Like you said, unregular oil changes and high idles will get you the hemi tick that will result in the lifters going bad and the camshaft. These hemi's hate idle, but they love when you go a little hard on her from time to time to lubricate those areas properly..
Synthetic oil since day one, bought truck brand new.
I just recently had to change all my lifters (But the camshaft was still good) which was a hefty price, though I used my truck for work in the oilfield so everyday it idled a lot..

DAMN, now THAT'S some high idle time, is the engine original (including cam & lifters)? Any valve train noise?

Everything on the truck is original! Other than the noise coming from my 37's tires on the highway, she is still running as if I bought her brand new and I abuse the truck like no other (Well I went through 4 Wheel Hubs, and broke my Icon Coilover when I Duke n Hazard jumped it haha) . Tow's great as well, I got a transmission flush on it a couple years ago when I hit 120,000km

Wish I had idle hours I could share. My 09’s cam went out at 133k. 3k miles after I bought the truck from my parents. ‍

My 2009 Ram 1500 5.7L idle times were terribly high
There were days that i would be waiting on a semi truck to come across the Mexico/ San Diego Border in 100°F plus heat, they did not have any shady areas to cool off under.
I would sometimes run my A/C for 8 hours straight, only to be told that the truck that i was waiting on, would not be crossing the Border until the next day
