Ouch. Yeah, you're right. If mid-grade is $3.25 and regular is $3.00 that would be $53 more per month for the hemi for gas expense. So about $100 more per month.

I don't need that extra oomph the hemi provides. I put 800 lbs of payload in the bed a couple times a month and maybe tow a 16.5 ft. fishing boat. The V6 pulls that stuff around effortlessly.

GOOD to know about pulling a 16ft fishing boat as I am shopping for one and was curious about the v6

Actually I like numbers and money and seeing where my money goes as I get older. So if I average 18mpg on a 20gal full up that’s 360mi. If I average 19mpg that’s 380mi. So if you take the $6 figure above and subtract the current 2.89 price for mid grade so it only costs $3.11 more per fill up with mid grade and you get the better MPG you all seek.

Here regular is 2.77 and 89 oct is 3.17, 93 oct is 3.27 so if you're buying 89 octane for longer range then go for it but you wont recoup you money by the extra mpg.

No you definitely won’t recoup money, especially where you are. That’s a big difference in price. I guess what I was trying to point out was at least here in VA putting 89 in is not much more expensive in the long run as one might think. I may have done a poor job at it.

On my way home today, I filled up in Portia, AR $2.48 for regular. Guess our prices aren't as bad as I thought.

I killed my v6 savings with big wheels n tires along with sport 2 setting on my P/C. Together has me at 17mpg if I’m lucky.

While I do have a Hemi, the Pentastar is no slouch. Decent hp & torque without the worry of an expensive turbo failure, you can't go wrong with it.

And that... is one of many reasons I miss AR (Fayetteville/Springdale mostly :) ).

The price difference here in SC is a bit more between regular and mid. But that's not the issue for me. When I get a new to me vehicle, I run all 3 grades through it for several tanks and see what happens. The difference in MPG for me was negligible between regular and mid, so why pay for it?

I've only had my Ram for about 2 months now and it was a tough decision when I was lookin for a new truck. Been a Ford guy all my life but gave up my Expeditin for a gas friendly Hyundai elantra touring 30 mpg vs 14 mpg, 5 years ago. Most of my driving is on the freeway 20 miles each way for main job and and 25 for the weekend job.Truck only has about 4,000 miles on it with 3 road trips as a big part of the mileage . I'm happy with the 21 to 22 mpg and thats with the AC on right now. Took a trip to Laughlin,Nv with the wife and 2 teen agers and got 23 mpg on the trip.Truck seems to have plenty of power for what I need. We'l see later on when I try towing the racecar(car should be around 1600lbs plus an open trailer) but just plan on towing locally and not out of state.Plans include cat back exhaust, cold air intake and probably the P/C aswell. Looking into getting some lighter wheels and some type of airdam to help with mileage also.
