So I bought a set of chrome clads with the intention of pulling the clads and having them powder coated. After pulling the first 3 and finding that they were already powder coated silver underneath the clads I was ready to use them as they were. Then I pulled the last one and found that not only was it not powder coated, it was machined differently as well. So now I have a problem. Does anyone have a clad wheel sitting around with damaged chrome they would be willing to pull (or one that has already been pulled) and check for me? I would be willing to pay for the wheel (and shipping of course) if it is what I need and they would part with it. I don't care so much about the powder coating being there as much as just having the wheel machined the same as the ones I have.

I know asking someone to do that to a wheel without a guarantee is a bit much but if someone just has one lying around the don't have plans for maybe they could help a brother out. I'll post some pics of my wheels when I get home so you know what I'm looking for.

1030181649.jpg This is what 3 of the wheels look like. Silver powder coat.
1030181648.jpg See the milling where the rim face steps down on the last one? It still has powder coat on it but the rim face is different. I would really like to get my hands on one like the top pic. I appreciate any help you guys could give.

Op, I would say unless you can find someone on here that’s close, and has what you need, you might just wanna start hittin’ up the junk yards. But I’m curious... on the wheel that you found is milled different; does it look different from the other three, from the backside too? In other words, could you not at all tell with one was different while the chrome clads were on?

To get it off just use a small flat pry bar like you would use on interior trim. stick it between the rim edge and the cladding. I used two or three at a time and just went slow.

All the wheels look the same on the backside, same part number stamp and everything. I'm hoping one of the yards around will have a few with bad chrome and let me pull them to check. I put the chrome back on the one I have to trade if they will let me. I think they should since their money is made either by weight of the wheel for scrap or condition of chrome for resale.

Dang. I can’t believe they mill them differently like that. You said you got these from someone else? If so, I wonder if those you got was a matching set off the same vehicle, but then again, I guess I could see the possibility of the wheels just not being milled exactly like the others since the chrome cladding covers all that up.

Not sure if they all came from the same truck but I assume they did. I got them from a Hemi engine builder and they were all in boxes with the fitment info printed on them. I know it don't mean anything but it seems to be a long way to go to hide something. I could tell when I took the cladding off that they had never been removed. All four had the factory adhesive foam crap on them. The guy had a couple of old police Chargers setting around but I didn't see even one truck.

What's weird about it is that the milled wheel at one time was exactly like the other three. If you look at the sides of the small part in the center of the spoke you can tell it has the smooth edges and silver powder coat. The flat of the raised area and the hub section up to it only have clear powder coating. That wheel was milled after the silver powder coat was sprayed and baked.
