Hello all! I found a brown 2001 Ram 2500 with a v10 + 5 speed manual trans for $8000 OBO. Is this a decent deal? (I need something that will tow a little more than my 07 1500 w/ the 4.7 v8.) Seems decent to me but KBB says 5,100 to 8200 for pricing and clean retail on NADA is only 5,550. Any info would be great. Thank you!

Sounds like a good deal. How many miles on it There was 2 near me for sale for 9500 both V10 automatics with around 100000 miles nice looking trucks to. One looked like it was repainted both trucks sold.

That sounds like a good price.

I own a V10 and 5 speed.

The reason the asking price doesnt match the blue book...this is a very rare truck and people are paying so much for trucks these days.

It has 164000 on it. 4x4 also. Just slightly important details I forgot to mention :p

And yeah, that makes sense about prices not matching. I wondered if that was the reason.

If it works out and I buy it I'll post a pic.

Thanks for the info!

$8K for a 20yr/old pickup seems like a ton of money to me, but like said, it's all about supply and demand.

If it's the truck you want, in a condition you can accept, why not.

I have seen the V10 going for 16k. And they sell.

The Cummins has sold for 23k. When new trucks are 66k...people start paying more for used ones.

Try buying a 2003 quad long bed with a V10 and a 5spd. Last year for it. Yeah...they expensive...if you can even find one.

It's a hard decision for me because I have an 07 1500 that I absolutely love. I haven't seen a whole lot of better looking 3rd gens than mine. But, the v10 + manual is pretty cool to me; it's basically all I've wanted in a truck I could afford, and I could use a little more towing power in my life.
It's a harder decision when I already have a vehicle I love, though! I'll be looking at the 2500 Friday so I have some time to chew on it.

Well, I got it! Trying to get motivation to go clean it up in the 100° weather. The steering seems a bit too loose though. Might start another thread on that after a while...IMG_20200807_153526.jpg

Well...that definitely looks worth the asking price

Sure wish they stayed that nice up here.

Anxious to hear your thoughts about it once you get some seat time.

Nice! I myself got a 2001 Ram 2500, V10 4x4, except mine is white, long bed, and automatic transmission. 129k miles on, paid $9000. It's lifted, but the steering is solid. PO fixed it up and there is a nice steering damper installed. Drives like a charm. Just need new tires. It got its second set ever in 2010, and now is 2020, and they're bald and all cracked.

If you don't mind, share how you like those GoodYear wranglers? I'm looking into getting those, or the BFGoodrich KO2s. The rims on my truck are wider than stock, so I got to stick to 315/75R16 and I'm looking at about $1k for just the 4 tires...

Sounds like a nice truck! I took my truck to my mechanic and he noticed the track bar joint that shouldn't move has a lot of play in it. The front end had a couple thousand dollars worth of work done fairly recently, but I guess they didn't replace that part for some reason. So, I'm hoping getting the track bar replaced will do the trick. And the tires seem great so far. They're fairly quiet actually. That's pretty much all I got on them till I have a bit more experience with them :p

My mechanic also discovered that the bolts on the engine mount had snapped. It's funny because the power steering pulley was rubbing against the washer fluid tank, and I just figured the tank was put in wrongly or something. But no, the engine is just tilted a tad.

My 2001 24v cummins diesel looks identical to that brown truck. It's a great truck with only 100,850 miles and I love it. If you could find it with the 5.9L diesel you would never regret it and it's great with towing.

I personally am pretty sure I'll be perfectly fine with the v10 for a while! Can't afford a diesel anyway! I've done my fair share of research on the Cummins and I would've paid around double for my truck if it were a diesel.

The V10 is actually more powerful stock than the Cummins until 2002.

I like the V10 much better, especially in winter and with the 5 speed you don't have to wait for it to spool back up

Yeah, me too. It's a lot more practical in my situation (cold climate, cheaper, more powerful, etc.). I've heard you can add a lot of power to the Cummins, but the V10 makes a lot more sense for people like me that prefer going stock.

The transmission was the limiting factor on the 2nd Gen. Why the manuals had higher ratings.

I would love to see how close the truck engine would have got to 500 horse 500 torque if it would have made it to a 4th Gen transmission.

It drives just like a Cummins. I have dual cherry bombs on mine and it sounds like one too.
