Hello new here but not to mopar today I had a dead #3 on my 5.7 so pulled plugs and found my plugs have had there gaps to be smashed shut is that usually the sign of piston failure
So i gapped plugs and runs fine now but I still should pull heads im sure there's gotta b an issue with the intermittent smoking what's the best bang for the buck for heads and iv read about comp cams they sound like they help
Well I finaly got it apart and seem to be missing some of the top of my piston and the head looks like it got shot with buckshot lol . The cylinder cleaned up at .25 mm so now I've got new pistons and rings found most of the pistons to be scuffed and oil rings to be stuck previous owner mut not of known what an oil plug or dipstick are . Now my question is on cam thoughts would like more grunt but I'm sure I was missing some from the get go
My 2006 is my daily driver and when I had to rebuild the engine I went with a Crazy Jay plus cam and Shotry headers for a gain of about 45HP and 35ft•lbs of torque. With the custom tune it drives like a different truck. The Crazy spartan and Comp Cams 260 or 268 are also popular with our Rams. With the cam you'll want to upgrade to 6.1L valve springs, push rods and most go with a 6.1L oil pump and timing kit. If you have to replace the heads you could get some ported 3rd Gen heads or even 4th Gen Eagle heads.
Comp 260 or sidewinder are a good bet. Or crazy jay is a good choice. I should of upgraded oil pumps when I was in there but completely slipped my mind. An getting short on funds.
