2004 heater box rattle

I have a loud rattle coming from my 2004 5900 climate box. When i reach under and behind the black heater box under the dash it will stop when pressure is applied. Ive been told there is a DIY fix of cutting the box to reach the climate door bushings and replace. This would be instead of the costly labor of pulling the whole dash out and buying the climate door update kit. Does anyone know of this "cutting" option?

If you have any pride in your truck, don't butcher it up. The damper doors are most likely broken and the only fix is to remove the entire heat/air box and open it up and replace the dampers.
