Two dead batteries..

When we jumped we were going off a batt that had totally dead cells.

So who knows how long I was on 1 batt that finally gave up.

Seems we gotta change batts in these new computerized trucks every 3-4 years even if we don't think there's a problem. Been hearing more and more of these problems lately.

It's not the trucks or cars persay, most if not all have high amp alternators. A 180 amp on my truck that would be ok with 130amps as I don't have the AC outlet or anything. I think battery quality is just crap these days. Step it up to red tops or even the new lithium ion batteries.

Could be, although I can't help think that these computerized tip start trucks are just a little more sensitive to low voltage just prior to start up where an old school truck just needs enough to get spark and crank.
Right before I traded my 2010 rubicon in it wouldn't start.
Road service tested the battery and it tested good, but the truck started with a jump and the dealer said it just needed a battery. It was 4 years old anyway, but still….

Dunno about you guys in the cold country, but here in the Arizona desert, that's pretty much standard procedure, even without computers.

From one crank to the next, you can go from "everything's fine" to "nope, dead/shorted cell".

The desert eats batteries.

Same way in texas 3 years and you need a new one car/truck doesn't matter. My dad only got 2 out of his on his powerstroke, had 3 year warranty so he got 2 new ones for free. My wife's altima factory battery just a tad older than 3 years and it went dead. My 06 ram in 09 was fine didn't even turn over slow next morning bam dead cell standed at home. Heat just kills them down here.

Vehicles now are getting more voltage sensitive with all the new fancy electronics diesel's are the worst even the mid-late 90s diesels became very sensitive. New ecu's are picky.

You guys ever run the lithium ion batteries? They actually put more more voltage as it heats up/gets warmer out.

I run them on my home turbo'd oil cooled 600 Suzuki bike and can't say enough great things about the shoria batteries. Its 1/3 the size of the OEM and weighs 1lb (OEM is like 10lbs) but it alost doubles the cranking amps and can sit on a shelf for over a year without needing a trickle charger.

Just throwing it out there. They are pricey but worth it in my opinion. XS batteries is a car battery manufacture. In my opinion the liquid acid and glass Matt sealed batteries are outdated and unreliable.

I'm seeing $1k+ pricetags on car/truck-sized ones. That's more than a bit pricey in my book.

Am I missing something?

XS is one of the leading producer of AGM (glass mat) batteries, AGM batteries will be the top performing battery till the lithium ion ones come down to reasonable price. Stay away from Optima's as they aren't the company that they used to be and for a heck of a good deal on great battery the Die Hard Platiums are really hard to be for reliablity.

I
was going to say there is a big difference between a 100150 CCA battery and a 750 CCA one.
+1 on the Diehard. They have a long standing reputation of being a solid and durable battery.

Just saying, guys are putting multiple smaller/cheaper batteries in series to get the amps without the price tag. I paid $130 or alittle less for my motorcycle battery, has 230cca. Put 3-4 together and u got enough to crank a hemi.... just ideas!

I like the idea for sure and actually almost pulled the trigger on a shoia before I got rid of my bike. Biggest thing for me is how they act in the cold. So far up here the electric cars that I've seen get a heated garage every night and range still suffers from the cold. Now the reason I bring this up is because they use a version of a lithuim ion battery and my truck sits outside every night.

I was told that heat is what kills a battery but it shows up when it's cold, so winter gets the blame.

Heat and cold kill batteries lol. Just like electronics are slow when cold and heat burns them up. They need a very specific heat range to work efficently.

I love my shoia battery, but I don't ride in the cold so I pull the batt and bring it in.

What about a warming blanket for the battery if kept in car outside lol.
