So i just bought this 2011 dodge ram 1500 big horn 5.7 with 188k on it REALLY CHEAP... paid 5k for it truck is in decent shape. So the guy i got it from couldnt get it running noticed no fuel pump so found out the TIMP fuel relay is bad so i jumped it out truck now runs. What is the best way to fix this? any way to bypass it? i mean now i have it hooked to the rear cig lighter circuit but its annoying every time i have the key on it runs pump. I am getting conflicting answers if i find a truck that's the same package or a matching box with same numbers i should be able to plug it in without having it programed correct? I also thought about replacing the on board relay myself but figured if i messed up i would have nothing.

Also i noticed now that the thing runs the fuel pump makes some noise its louder then my other ram its loud overall but sometimes makes a high pitch squeal then goes away i assume its going bad?

Another issues it has the all to common exhaust manifold leaks both sides bolts broke gasket blew out does anyone know of a better aftermarket gasket? the one they sell in auto parts store looks like **** metal with gasket on top... what ever happened to a solid gasket its like its made to corrode/rot out.. i used the same one on my 09 and it blew out already...

From what I've read, it's not the gasket that the issue with the broken exhaust bolts, it's the manifolds. Most people that have gone to headers - either shorties or long tube - say they haven't had an issue since.

i replaced bolts and warped manifold on my 09 same engine and 1 side blew out im going to look into headers manifolds/gaskets seam to be trash also noticed a small knock when hitting gas timing chain looks to have a lot slack so replacing it hopefully that was it.

AS far as the TIMP i have decided before i spend the money on a replacement i am going to try myself or have a local tv/computer place solder in the new relay and hope it works.

In 2011 and most years, you can swap in any TIPM part that is the right part number for the truck. The truck configuration is stored in another module, PCM I think, and gets downloaded to the TIPM.

FCA recalled Jeeps of that era to install an outboard fuel pump relay. I think the best functionally is a TIPM replacement with the most current rev level available, but then there is that cost.

Shortly headers aren’t that expensive. Why bother milling those junk iron manifolds.

Matt at Moe’s can get shortys, gaskets, and bolts.

Dam nice truck for 5k brother, I wouldn’t care what was wrong, even a blown engine, I still would’ve bought it. Nice find!

When I was working on my truck, it had the same tipm problems, tried finding someone who fixes them but couldn’t, but as I see now that they do exist, of course I find this out 5 tipms later, lol. O’well she’s sold anyway.

Engine is currently making a slight knock noise doing timing chain at the moment had a lot of slack hoping that's it if not will flush engine a few times but most likely see lifters in the future. Looks like orig cam and lifters as the front cover was never taken off soo...

All ram 2009up 1500 hemis Have MDS. MDS lifters have holes in the body to bleed oil pressure to keep the valves from opening while in 4 cyl mode.

I found a few sets on ebay:
