Have 17 inch chrome clad wheels on my 2011 Ram. Just bought set of 2018 classic 17 inch 5 spoke look like alluminum or alloy wheels with 265/70/17 tires with 500 miles on them. Going to put 2018 wheels on soon, can I use my original lug nuts or are they different for alloy wheels? I used original lugs with stock steel wheel with snow tires and they worked. Don't want any surprises when I go to put them on. Thanks for the help.

Depends, look on the rim to see if they are the same concave or not. If not just buy the correct ones.

Read the lugnut thread in my sig, you may just want to buy new ones, I recommend gorillas.

Once you get mags, look at the holes, flat, cone, or round.

You were smart to ask this question.

Thank you Burla, all 3 sets of wheels have tapered lugs. Might get a new set anyway. Not to sound stupid but new to forum, not new but new to posting and answering. How do you read thread in your sig? thank you.

Basically ram lugs have caps, if those caps go loose, you are f'd.

Saw thread, thank. Found them on Amazon but will check local auto store to make sure before ordering. think 41187b half inch will work but will check to make sure before ordering. Thanks again. My original lugs still look good as I only use sockets and tork to only 85 ft lbs by hand. Impact wrenches really mess up those stock lugs with the cheep cover.

I am reasonably certain the oe wheels use the same lug nut type whether steel or aluminum. They changed thread pitch in later years I believe, but still the same stud diameter and lug nut type. If they're aftermarket wheels the most common is the flange type, which is different than the oe ones.

Just noticed you said torqued to 85 ft/lbs. To my knowledge the torque spec is 130 ft/lbs for the 1500s. You may want to verify before you have one come loose on you. I've had it happen. Wasn't much fun. Also why I religiously re-torque my wheels after around 50 miles and again after another 50 if any of them felt loose on the re torque.

They are all oe wheels, steel, chrome clad and alloy. The steel are from a 2005, the chrome clad are from a 2011 and the alloy are off a 2019 classic. Just wanted tires but got 4 alloy rims and 265/70/17 tires with 500 miles for $500, couldn't pass that up. Thanks for all the help. Would like to get a new Ram classic as I like the older body style but being retired it isn't really in the budget. My 2011 is my third Ram and very well taken care of. Only repair other than early maintainance was a wheel speed censor in 104,000 miles. Have 2 other cars, a hot rod Nova SS and a Malibu with 330,000 miles I drive in winter and anywhere I don't want to take Ram.

I have been tightening to 85 for years and no problem, just check torque at 50 and 500 miles. Too tight and it seems to warp rotors, have original rotors and still are perfect, no wobble with 104,000 miles. Put Wagner oex front pads on at 90,000 and back pads are original. Truck is babies except for about 15 quarter mile passes.

I get that. If I wasn't off road so much I'd just run factory take off sras for the 300 or 400 hundred a set I find them for nearly new, but alas they're too light duty for my uses so I get too many flats and failures.
