I have searched the forum extensively and read quite a few threads on upgrading the basic steering wheel to one with EVIC, Radio and Cruise buttons, but NONE on a 2011.

I can find used steering wheels on eBay, but when checking the part numbers most appear to be 2013 or newer. I can’t seem to find any compatibility information for the 2011.

What years will swap out with the 2011? Is it Plug & Play, or will it require some wire splicing like on newer models? Anyone have the correct part numbers? Anyone done this upgrade on a 2011 and I just missed the thread?

2009 - 2011 are the same, they changed in 2012, usually plug and play, unless you do not have the audio controls on the back of the wheel and the new wheel has them. They would need to be programmed to function. You can do it yourself, the AlfaOBD thread has it buried somewhere in there.

Thank you. I thought I read that the 2009 was also a one-off different wiring?

I’ll check out the AlfaOBD thread. I’ve got the reader, just waiting on the Galaxy phone I ordered to download the software. (I’ve currently got an iPhone).

Partially correct, 2009 2500 and 3500's are different than the 1500's, they still have the 3rd gen style.

Hello Jim 11, so I'm doing the same thing your doing. I have a 2011 ram 1500 basic model. I have since swapped out the gage to a 4 gage cluster. I also did a steering wheel swap with the added buttons. I'm have the same issues none of the buttons work and the horn isn't working either. I have Alfaobd, were you able to get this stuff to work?

I never was able to get it to communicate. Turns out the wheel was a 2012, and it seems the 2011 1500 is somewhat of a unicorn and doesn’t play well with swaps of newer electronics. I ended up going back to stock and sold the 1500 because I picked up a 2500 Cummins.
