Do all 2012 Ram 1500 with single in dual out have the same size pipes (3 in, 2.5 dual out)? I took a Magnaflow 14 inch #12198 to a shop today to have installed. The guy told me the muffler doesn't line up right, the pipes going out are 2 1/4 inches and it would taken quit a bit of modification to have it fit. I had him put the original muffler back on and think I will take it to a shop that I have used before that I have confidence in. Did I order the right muffler? I just want the old one out and the new one welded in, I realize some pipe will be needed to compensate for size. Thanks

Welcome to RF. Looks to me like you got the right muffler. Definitely try the other shop that you have more confidence in.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm on my 2nd Ram. Had a 2009 and just recently got the 12'. Yeah I assume the shop should just be able to weld the new one on with a little added pipe coming out of the dual outlets. This guy today had no freaking clue. Told me that Ram had a whole system that could be clamped on, I knew enough to just tell him to put my muffler back on and walk out.

You can indeed purchase a mufflex that will replace the factory muffler, all bolt in.
I don't know that there is really a large advantage to doing so.

When I measured the tailpipes, I had 2.5". I really doubt yours to be different.

Yeah i have the Magnaflow muffler already that I believe is the same one used in the Mufflex kit. I just want the muffler welded in place of the old one and want to keep the stock pipes and tips. Have an appointment somewhere on Thursday. I am correct in assuming that all is needed is extra pipe to compensate for the shorter muffler? Seems like a simple job for a good exhaust guy.

Well suprisingly after having the new Magnaflow muffler installed I found out that indeed the stock muffler was 3" in and 2.25"dual out. I still have the stock muffler in the garage. The guy had no problem with the install and weld. Love the sound now with the Magnaflow, drone isn't too bad. The drone isn't nearly as bad as the Borla I had on my 09.

on my 2012, they're 2.25.

Any decent exhaust shop will be able to work with a muffler that has 2.5 outlets.

There are some aftermarket that are Single 3 in and Dual 2.25 out, but really, Dual 2.5 out works too, with slight modification.
