The Dealer has no problem seeing the location of the leak, they just cannot explain why replacing the gasket did not work! They are now questioning the flatness of the forged carbon fiber pan?????

They were going to talk with Chrysler Engineering and call me back today with the decisions reached, BUT, No call??

That shouldn't have been hard to check. Did they ever here of a straight edge?

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

YES! However, since the 8-spd is new to the RAM, all this repair is being directed by Chrysler Engineering, which will surely turn into a Cluster F*^#

Rock - I have suspected this. Do you know what other vehicles it has been in? Just curious. It's not like they built it new for the trucks. I don't think anyway.

Willie - it would seem that with it leaking that much mineral oil (tranny fluid) that you would be able to lay under it running and watch it leak out, no?

They are all the 8HP transmission, some cars used different clutch packs and what not based on HP ratings. The Ram uses the second highest rating version of the transmission. Only the Royles and Bentley using the highest one.

No that part is already in use.

When chrysler picked this transmission for some of there products, the plant for the transmissions (certain variations of it) was moved to the united states. Seems build quality might have suffered because of this.

I suspect you may have a part with a manufactures defect. From my understand no one else has reported this problem were a simple gasket did not fix it.

Chrysler's next move......

Bring truck back in for a quick review by our Technicians!

1. The transmission leak could be higher up on the transmission and running down, giving the impression that the Carbon fiber plate is the cause
2. Could be leaking where the tranny cooler enters/leaves the tranny
3. Two or three other possibilities to check
4. After the Dealer reports these new finding to Chrysler Engineering, a game plan will be formalized.

The saga continues and so does the drip, drip, drip :drink_nl:

Awaiting parts for 2nd repair attempt...

Took it in for its 2nd review, per instructions from Chrysler Engineering!

Now they feel that the leak is coming from the gasket of the inlet/outlet of the "transmission-HEATER"! Its located on the drivers side of the transmission housing on the 8-spd!

Parts are on order :fca5278d:

Seems to be fixed............

The second repair attempt to fix the transmission leak, so far, seems to be the charm :party52:

They replaced the two O-rings on the inlet/outlet of the transmission heater, the size of which would slip over my little finger. One appeared to have been flattened on one side during assembly!

This may not be an isolated event as Chrysler Engineering told them were to look for the leak, on this 2-ne repair!

The damaged O-ring was sent overnight to Chrysler!!

8-hrs later and NO-drips at yet :party52:

First off... the oil pan is plastic. Not carbon fiber. Whoever is feeding you that is blowing smoke.

Generally there are only two common leaks on these ZF transmissions. Oil pan/gasket. And then the transmission connector sleeve seal (round electrical connector, right rear of the transmission, right above of the pan).

I personally have never seen or heard of cooler/heater pipes leak at the transmission (other than incorrect installation). I would say it is probably a one-off occurrence, and wont be a re-occurring problem.

This is what warranties are for, seams like a really small issue that they handled. Plus they don't have to provide loaners and you got one for an oil leak, sounds like they really took care of you.
