I have a 2013 Ram Big Horn bought 5 years ago with 92k and now has 979??k miles about 6k miles i put on truck in the 5 years I have owned it.
My question is the front headlights seem dim at night not good lighting. The lights are bright in the headlight housing but illuminating the road is kinda dim/yellowish..
I have stock lights and bulbs in the housing, what would be a good replacement for a brighter light and staying away from LEDS. Does Sylvania or another maker make a brighter bulb?
The front headlight lens are like brand new no yellowing or hazing crystal clear.

thanks

Then your never going to get any decent output out of those housings lol. Like I said fahrens are tried and true, dozens of guys on these forums alone running them for years, and I’ve never heard any issues or negative reports. Great output for cheap, no flickering or headlight out messages.

^Agree with this. I first tried some Sylvania Ultra something and no difference. Next up was $30 for some Novsight LED bulbs and couldn't be more happy. That was 7 years ago though. Fahrens have a good rep here. Just put a set in my father's 06 Dakota. Big difference.

>> Do you have quad or projector housings?

Worked 3rd shift when I had a 2013 1500. No foglights and basic quad halogens...

Went with Sylvania Silver Star zXe bulbs which helped a bit without any other mods and as good a halogen bulb as your gonna get. But very cheap either (Quads are just not good housings).
Added factory foglight wiring/pods which helped a bunch.

Upgraded further to factory projector housings (TYC brand, which is very good brand, same quality as factory) with adapter harnesses from The Retro Shop, which were significantly better even with the zXe bulbs. (Planned for LED bulb upgrades)

Picked up a 2018 truck with factory projectors and went to LEDs with changing vehicle settings to LED/Hid to disable the PWM ( pulsed output that causes LED to flicker) and was extremely pleased with that setup. see references below if intereste (someone had a similar question the other day)

----------
IMO best option here is to setup the truck for LED lights to disable the PWM (pulsed output). A proper AlfaObd setup will pay for itself.... Don't cheap out with an unreliable elm327 adapter, if anything doesn't work right, you don't want to have to worry if it was the adapter.

I always suggest...
** AlfaOBD (for activating factory features yourself. See Docs linked in OP.)
---> OBDLink MX BT adapter

I did read up on the Sylvania Silver Star zXe bulbs and seen lots of problems with them not lasting less than a month to a year or less.
I should have the H9s today and will install tomorrow. Anything better than the stock bulbs.
Last night here in Boston even with a full moon it was a dark night and seemed my headlights wernt on. So I will try the H9s in the Quad housings and see what happens. Dont use the truck much at night and when I go plowing my lights switch over to my fisher plow lights.

What would be the part # for the Fahrens for a 2013 Ram with quad housings.

The last set of Fahren bulbs I bought about 18 months ago came with a 2-year replacement warranty that Fahren would extend to 3 years after online registration.

The model year of your truck or 2013-2016 are known to be a PITA but, I haven't heard of anyone not having success with LEDs after an easy tweak using AlfaOBD.

Everyone has their preferred method for using AlfaOBD, mine is with a windows laptop and an OBDlink SX USB interface. The SX is cheaper, faster, and more reliable than the popular MX+.

My laptop also contains an altered OS where I make the decisions on network access or updates from Microsoft. I added that for the windows-phobic crowd.

BTW, the following vid is an excellent tutorial for headlight alignment, which should be verified after any significant light upgrade. And adding Fahren LED bulbs is hugely significant.

My Faren bulbs were tagged as 400% brighter and they're magnificent. Now they're up to 900% brighter.

% brighter and 3 billion such and such lumens is just nonsense Chinese marketing, but they are definitely a massive improvement, right up there with $1k+ morimoto setups.

No point in Alfaobd with fahrens, they have resisters/decoders built in that work perfectly. They’re plug and play, just need to clock them.

You seem to know these bulbs pretty well or at least you think you do.
Why are you correcting my posts anyway?

I agree that it's marketing hype, however; I own several vintages of the same Fahren bulbs and, call it whatever you want, they are noticeably brighter.

They were plug-and-play for my truck too but I've worked with several users with 2013-2016 trucks who had lots of grief with intermittent flickering and dropouts.

The problems were easily solved with AlfaOBD - VehConfig 3-High Intensity Discharge Headlamps set to yes.

Are you sure that it is the lights, or AMD? ;)

Because unless OPs truck is possessed by a gremlin, there’s no need to spend time and money on Alfaobd, OP is clearly looking for something plug and play without the extra effort.

I do have an Alfaobd got one when I bought my truck to activate the security alarm.
Still dont want leds as its a pain to change the bulbs on these trucks as you know.
So I will try the H9 bulbs and see if any improvement.

It’s a pain to change bulbs, so you’d rather waste time putting in more halogens that aren’t going to be any better then what you’ve got? Your not making any sense lol

It only takes a few minutes to pull the grill and pop the lights out once you’ve done it a couple times
