Trying to two a Magic Tilt dual axle trailer. It has hydraulic over electric brakes.

Trailer has a 5 pin plug and truck has 4 or 7 pin plugs. I've got a 5 to 7 pin adaptor, however when I connect the trailer I get the "Trailer not connected" message on the screen.

The combo plug on the truck is a Mopar part and I'm wondering if it's wired differently than a normal seven pin plug.

I've tried all the settings for the trailer in the menu and the truck won't recognize the trailer.

Why are you using the adaptor? Are the 2x7 pin plugs different? I suspect that is tour issue.

Truck has a 4 pin or 7 pin connector.

Trailer has a flat 5 pin connector.

You need some sort of adaptor to make a flat 5 go into a round 7.

I understand now.... if your 4 to 7 round doesn't work, I'm suspecting somehow your trailer is wired wrong.

Flat 5 plug has the brake line connected to the top female port.

All the adaptors have that port wired to the center pin on the round 7.

All the other lights function on the trailer.

It probably says that because that feature is only used when you tow a trailer with electric brakes, which yours does not have. So it sees that there is a 7 wire plug plugged in but the brake wire is "disconnected" hence why it says trailer not connected. That 5th wire in a 5 wire plug is a reverse light plug, not a electric brake plug. I'm assuming the trailer has surge brakes which a lot of times at least with boats will include that 5th wire so when you are in reverse the trailer brakes do not come on by accident when backing up.

Brakes are electric over hydraulic which is a option in the controller menu.

So I guess my real question is how does the brake controller recognize a trailer is attached?

I think loveracing is onto something with the 5 pin in the 7 pin rv plug. The truck may be confused sense 5 plug isn't extremely common just mainly on boat trailer. With a 5 pin it's not using the brake signal or aux power signal.
