2014 Ram Diesel. Had the 90,000 mile service and at the same time replaced the actuator. Ever since there has been this rattling, almost knocking, noise when the engine is under load in the 1750 to 1900 RPM range and again between 2300-2500 RPM range. During acceleration or climbing. Has anyone experienced this? We've checked all the heat shields but just can't figure it out. Check out the video.

Open a window to see if the noise gets louder/changes. If not start looking in the cab for something vibrating around. Something could be in one of the door pockets, storage bins and it will surprise you how much noise it will make.

Does it rattle when sitting still and revving up to those RPM's?

No, only with a load. I can duplicate it if holding the brake down but it wants to move at those RPMs.

Have tried all that. The sound resonates from the dash, instrument cluster, less noticeable from the outside. It's definitely corresponding to the engine speed as it's very consistent in the 1700-1900 and 2300-2500 RPM range regardless of which gear it's in. But again, it's only under load conditions which means when towing it is constant...

Try pulling the lower dash panel and the radio/HVAC bezel. Depending on the trim level and options of your truck there are unused wiring connectors that have been know to mover around, sometimes pop out of the placeholders

It is funny, people look at those things like foam pads and go "What is that for?". They take them off or as in your case don't put them back properly. Well they are for things like this where something vibrates or rattles. The engineers probably started without them and found the noise in the pre-production models. Tracked it down to those lines and applied the fix. They don't specify this extra expense if there isn't a good chance the same noise will happen when the vehicle is mass produced.

My tractor was making a horrible scraping / rattling noise at 1325 RPM's. A few RPM's higher or lower and it was fine. Turned out to be the hydraulic line for the 3 point hitch was bent slight and rubbing the other line. You could look right at the line and not see it move. If you touched it, you really feel the vibration and the noise stopped. Put some hard foam between the lines at that point and zip tied them together. No more noise.

Took the ram to another shop. They found the foam rubber sleeves for the power steering lines going to hydro boost we’re not secured and in the wrong position. Repositioned and secured. Noise gone.
Thank you! Thank you! After endless searching and tones of blogs and no solution to the rattling noise under acceleration I have found your post and with little effort I found a steel line with a missing insulator. Not missing but slid down. Put it back in place and the rattling noise is gone. So many opinions of what it could be but your post was the fix. Thank you!
