Recently purchased a 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie. I have the front buckets with full console in the center. I have had multiple Rams with center consoles in the past and it seems like the hinge assembly for the console lid generally has some good tension to it so the lid does not slam down on its own, and requires you to push them down to close, even in the double lid console where the bottom section is generally much heavier than the top lid.
With this new truck, it seems like the spring tension on the lid hinge is very weak and if you do not hold on to the lid assembly it will slam down on its own. Have not had any luck finding info regarding this on the web.
Checking to see what other people's thoughts are on there lid hinges before I go and try to purchase a new assembly or look into potentially a used one. The new assemblies range anywheres from $600 to $1,000, they do not sell the hinge separately. I would hate to order one of these just to find out a new one is no better than the one I have.
