does a basic quad cab tradesman come pre-wired for a backup camera so that the install is just plug and play both for the camera to the screen as well as for the power to the camera.

Thank's a question I always thought was simple to answer, that the manufacturers use one harness and just utilize whatever they need for specific models. i'm learning that RAM apparently does not have the same logic. I have no idea if your question is answered in that broad brushed statement but from what I am seeing posted here, specific models have specific wiring harnesses, or at least more limited ones. My best guess would be to open the tailgate and see if there's a stray wire back there that might be the camera lead. Put the truck in reverse and see if it powers up. That alone may not help since it might need other signals from the head unit to actually get the power.

It is not always something that you'd think be as simple. My buddy's 16 Charger had no camera, and it seemed simple enough to add one like the OEM ones you could do for the 11-14s which you'd just replace the third brake light and boom you're plugged in. However, with the newer Gen you'd need to order the OEM camera and wires, then drill a hole in the back of the trunk and install the camera into it. Which means permanent cutting plus wiring it manually. The connections were there but I read of some people's not working or not working properly. The dealership said they weren't willing to do it but recommended a shop that wanted 500$ to do it not including the 500$ or so for the camera wires etc. Something so easy can become really complicated.
