Good day all. Today on my way for an oil change my truck began to sputter and drive rough. Thought I was low on gas cuz truck kept dying. Made it to gas station filled up and same issue now truck does and doesn’t accelerate. Hooked up computer and got a P0300 code. Looking around what it may be but come across many different solutions. My question is how much should I prep for and if it’s something other than simple plugs, coil overs, injectors any recommendations on those. Any advice would be great. Thank you. 2014 1500 5.7, 69000 miles. Original owner never had any issues.

Any chance you got a bad batch of gas, or ran the fuel supply low - and possible had water in your gas?

I added a bit of gas that I had in a gas tank to help get me to gas station. Shouldn’t have water in it

Looking online, came across something about changing spark plugs every 30,000. Is this true? If so should I change coils as well? What spark plugs and coils are recommended? Thanx

Well first do you often drive it until the gas light comes on? bad for the fuel pump. Also its likely the gas you dumped in was bad see it all the time take a fuel sample.

Your 2014 model year is good for 100,000 miles on those spark plugs.

Coils only need replacing when malfunctioning, not as a regular maintenance item.

I’m with jws ,in thinking you put some dirty/contaminated fuel from the can in her and now she’s spitting up.

Stick with OEM coils. Odds are you won't have to change a coil unless there's something wrong with it.You can do a basic rebuild on the coils with new boots and springs from Rock Auto.
I'm to lazy to write it all out,so do a search on my name ,and you'll find one of my posts detailing how to clean them up and do a home rebuild on the coils.

Unless they still have Petroleum Gasoline where you live ..

Your gas is made from corn, called ethanol, made from Corn, which has a lot of water in it, the Water seperates, making the Corn Gas Life Span very short

I just had to empty my Harley Davidson Gas Tanks.
It had Corn Gas in it, it has been in those tanks for too long & i don't trust it

Hopefully it is something small, but it is a known fact most cam fails happen between 70k and 130k miles. Those numbers came from polling at the other forum. That forum started a data base while this forum was developing lubrication strategies. You are a long way from a cam fail diagnoses, but this would be a known issue and also follows your symptoms, but also simple solutions also follow those symptoms. Swap coil and plug from that cylinder with any other one and see if the code travels, if the code doesn't travel if you are lucky it would be injector issue, or at that point the cam comes into play. Depending where you live and how much metal might be in the engine if that was the case, it could be real bad news as far as costs.

Since it happened with low gas level, that is often when junk gets sucked through injectors, possibly.

My son just got a P0300 on his 2014 with 270+ miles, and after an arm full of replacement parts the problem turned out to be the green crusties in one of the PCM connectors.

With high mileages, that's where my thinking would be, "Oh no, it's gotta be the worst possible thing."

Frustrating going down parts cannon road, but at least some comfort in finding something relatively minor.

A major breakdown is always in my mind's recesses now that my Ram is nearing 200k miles. Nothing lasts forever.

Been there done that. All of the posts here are correct possibilities.
For me, it turned out to be a broken valve spring.
Do a compression test to find the cylinder that has low compression.
Remove the valve cover and inspect the springs while cranking the engine.
