I purchased a used 3500 a couple years ago and so far I'm overall happy, it was my first non-Ford in forever.

But I have been having issues which seem to be getting worse with the information display between the gauges. I've googled and searched but none of the other posts on this problem seem to match exactly what mine is doing.

This problem used to only be present when it was cold out, now it seems to happen in warmer temperatures and more often.

The display will flash or not come on at all and if I do get it to stay on I can only do it if I turn the headlights on and slide the dimmer off the highest setting. I shot a video to try and show the issue. Many times the display is off for long periods (hours) and then will magically come back on, but only on the dimmer setting.

I've read lots about a recall that the dealership can fix with software, but that seems aimed at the gauge lights flashing and not the display. My gauge lights seem to work fine and as expected.

Any help is appreciated. I don't care too much in the winter, but now that summer is coming I tow a camper a lot and need to see trans temp etc.

Thanks

You could open it up and see if there is a way to reseat the connection for the screen, but you might be better off replacing the cluster yourself.

Here is the recall information: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2013/RCRIT-13V486-9753.pdf

You can contact any Ram dealer to determine if your vehicle is affected (by providing your VIN) - and if so, has the safety recall work been performed on your vehicle.

You can also check on the status of any open safety recalls by entering your VIN in this NHTSA site: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls#vin
