I have 124k on the clock and normally on a 7-8,000 mile oil change I have to add 1-2qts of oil. Well I have 3500 miles since last oil change and I pulled the dip stick and it was barely on the dip stick. Put a qt and a half to get it back in the middle of the safe zone. Recently talked to Chrysler today about it and they suggested that I do a consumption test. I have a bumper to bumper full warranty no deductible until 190,000 miles so they said that will cover it. Any one else having these issues?

Only 34K miles, zero oil loss at normal 5-6 k OC, one at 7K same. Have had total of 6 oil changes. Leaking or burning.
EDIT: I use the recomended Penzoil ultra platinum, 0w40 and a wix filter.

Best solution for oil consumption is switch to Conventional oil; a 10w40 high mileage sound be just fine. Not sure how that would effect your warranty and cold starts during the winters.

My 2014 6.4 burns between .5 - 1 quart between oil changes (8K miles or so). Ram likely has some spec for what it "normal". I remember this coming up with vehicles before (can't remember if it was Ram) and the "normal" was a pretty staggering amount of usage. If it's like everything else with Ram and warranties, if it moves and isn't on fire nothing is wrong. I'll be curious to hear what the test results say and what their spec for "normal" is.

For the poster running different than recommended oil, even if it's for a good purpose and you are correct, ram would void your warranty if anything engine related comes up.

Exactly correct and exactly why I will spend the money to only use PUP in my truck and mopar filters till my power train warranty is out. After that I'll experiment with other 0-40s I can get at Wally world...lol much cheaper and more convenient to buy the 5qt jug at Wally and two quarts than the PUP which I can't get locally

1.5 qts 3500 miles, is not normal to me. Are you doing these yourself? I had a dealer quick lube tell me 0w20 semi syn was the correct oil for 6.4 WTH? maybe they would put 5 qt,s in too. Same dealer didn't tighten the filter and came loose 100 mi down the road. I would for sure be using 0w40 or 5w40 (maybe) full syn with high moly. PUP and Amsoil ,and Mopar are the only "approved" oils for the 6.4. I'm not preaching to you, hope you figure it out.

77K on a 6.4, no oil usage or loss at 7k OCI. Use dealer to do changes, they indicate 0W40 is what is put in.I have the lifetime low deductible warranty, and don't want to jeopardize it by changing from spec products. So far the truck has met expectations quite well...

Whenever oil consumption jumps like that the first thing I would replace is the PCV valve.

I know that the PCV system is different for the 6.4 Hemi (over the 5.7) but it still has a PCV valve.

At a 124,000 miles has it been done?

Also PUP 0W40 is a great oil but it is on the low end of a 40 weight and will shear down to a 30 weight range in a few thousand miles. You could try another brand of 0W40 oil to see if that helps too.

I'm at 70,000. My last change went over to about 8000 miles. It burned about a quart.

The PCV system is internal to the intake manifold on the 6.4HD engines. So unfortunately it’s not really serviceable unless you replace the manifold.

As for FCA acceptable oil consumption. It is 1qt per 2000miles. That’s not just FCA though, it’s an industry standard. Personally I feel that’s excessive but I don’t make the rules.

Oil consumption also varies based on engine use. A 6.4 in a 5500 crane truck working hard everyday is going to use a lot more oil than a 2500 6.4 going to work and back.

Hahaha...ask GM what's acceptable. My buddy had a Northstar Cadillac that would burn a quart every 1K miles, luckily those engines held 8 quarts of oil. Dealer said it was "within spec"

Chrysler spec used to be 1qt every 1000miles so that doesn’t surprise me.

I used to just add 1qt at 4,000 miles then by the time 8,000 hit I’d just get a oil change. But slowly using a little more than that now. I love the 6.4 tho after owning gm 6.0 ram 5.7 and ford 6.2 it’s my favorite 2500 gas for sure!

3 years deep with my 6.4 next month, but only about 26k miles so far. The trucks sits a lot due to having a work vehicle. I change the oil once a year with Amsoil signature series. Never noticed it drink any oil yet.

I just had my first oil change . I have a 2018 2500 w/6.4. I checked my oil at 3,200 miles and it was a quart low. I was hoping the oil usage was just a break in.

I do the same. Run Amsoil 0w40. Mine is a 2018 with 13,000 and hasn't burnt a single drop of oil. Even last summer screaming up the rockies with a decent size trailer behind me it didn't consume anything.
