Here's the deal. I have agreed on a price with the dealer, havent signed a contract yet, but we negotiated price and i signed a piece of paper agreeing on the price on a 2014 SLT 2500. It has the 6 speaker system. I was wondering if it is prewired for the Alpine 9 Speaker system. I think i read somewhere that it was prewired for the heated/ventilated seats, but i couldnt find if it was prewired for the 9 Speaker Alpine system. Does anybody know? Reason im asking is because i would really like to have it, and there is a truck with it available elsewhere, but its hours away and they (the other dealer) wont do a dealer trade for it, I would really like to just get this truck, but i know it is a pain upgrading the audio with these uconnect touch screen systems. Also, i just figured it was prewired since its an available option on the SLT. So my questions are.....

is the SLT prewired for the Alpine 9 Speaker system?

if so, is there anyway to get a hold of the parts/what would those be?

how hard would it be (and expensive) to get a similar system to the 9 speaker system going aftermarket?

how hard to just wire in a couple subs? ive dont sub installs myself on previous vehicles, but this is the first where id like to keep the factory uconnect system.

I have searched a lot, like an entire day straight....

I, and some others here have the Alpine 9 speaker system and hate it. I WISH I had the 6 speaker system because it sounds better. Just an opinion for thought.(more is not always better)

I have the Alpine system in my 12 Sport and it is nothing special. I have the 6 speaker system in my 2012 ST company truck and it sounds just as good as the Alpine, maybe even better. I agree with the other guy, more is not always better.

you can use the PAC harness and wire up a couple subs cheaper then upgrading to the alpine 9 speaker system, I had the 6 speaker setup in my Ram and it sounded better then my buddys 9, have since upgraded to all kenwood and it sounds much better.

alpine system is ok but build your own is better. If it wasnt so intergrated. I'd rip it out and rip mine out

Could you provide more info on this harness? Links? What i have to do?

Also, can you even get the alpine amp and stuff? I read its a factory option.

i searched i dont see much of anything about it working with the 8.4an system or anything. I see posts about it on older models. I went to their website and they dont show anything even back to 2012 other than steering wheel control adapters and ipod integration adapters...

you could tap into the back of the head units output for the front speakers and feed that signal to a line out converter to filter the bass for the subs, then just run a remote on wire, and your power wire and you're done.

It's not pre-wired, and be thankful. You can now upgrade without spending $thousands of dollars and man hours. I do like the high-end head units, but loathe the Alpine amp/speakers/tuning, etc.

Sound Quality is horrible compared to other high-end systems. Upgrading the system is even worse. It all depends on your point of reference. It sounds OK when comparing to a 4-speaker Ford system, or a 6-speaker base Chrysler. Compared to a half-decent aftermarket, or Lincoln THXII system, it sounds bad. If I were Alpine, I'd honestly be ashamed to have my name associated with it. If you put their Type E (lowest line) aftermarket speaker paired with a $150 aftermarket HU, it would sound better. I do like Chrysler's head units (for features), but not the Alpine integration. If you search, you'll read many similar complaints across all platforms. I've heard the "Beats" system isn't much better, but the Harman Kardon systems are.

i will be honest the alpine stereo is not what its cracked up to be. i had it in my '11 durango and it sucked. i replaced all the components with better higher end. i decided to opt out of that upgrade when i got my ram due to the fact i did change it all out.

Op i also dont believe its "pre-wired" for heated seats. even if it was its more than just heating elements and switches to get them to work.

i would spec out everything you want on a truck and get it!

Maybe my hearing is bad, but I like my Alpine 9 speaker setup. Never listened to the 6 speaker setup, so I guess I have nothing to compare it to.

I love car audio, and always put aftermarket gear in my vehicles (and my wife's)
with that being said, I would never buy a Ram with the Alpine system in it due to what KKreit01 has mentioned. Buy the Ram with the 6 speaker system, and enjoy the peace of mind for two reasons...your 6 speaker system sounds better than the Alpine system, and when it's time, you can add aftermarket gear without the hassles an Alpine system would present. Trust me

I test drove a '13 with the 6 speaker system and then another '13 with the 9 speaker Alpine. I knew right away the Alpine was a must have. It blew the base system out of the water.
