Recently my truck had the engine light come on and went into limp mode. I pulled over and sit for about five mins and it cranked up and ran fine. done it twice in about a 30 day period. I took it to the dealer to get it serviced and told him about it and the checked the codes and said a low coolant code popped it. even though the coolant level was fine. He done his thing on it and said that the coolant reservoir tank cap had a small leak that caused a pressure loss. Long story short, he ordered a new one. Came in and i went to replace it yesterday and it doesnt look like the old one. the outside looks like it and the fit is the same but the original one has what looks like a thermostat built on the end of it that goes into the tank. the new one doesnt. i called the dealer this morning and they said it had been redesigned? I bought the truck new so i know thats the one that came on it from the factory. so either one of three things has happened. either the factory put the wrong one on when it was built, or the cap has been redesigned, or the dealer is full of it and ordered the wrong one. Anyone have any experience on this?? Its a 2015 model. any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not aware of any engine under the hood of a RAM that runs a pressurized coolant reservoir tank. What RAM model and what engine is in your 2015?

its a 2015 2500 ram 6.7 cummins. and the coolant reservoir cap has 21 psi / 145 kpa written right on the top of it.

Got a picture of the old one? My 2016 doesn't have anything attached to the cap. There is a fluid level sensor in the tank but that's it

The EcoDiesel uses a degas bottle (which is pressurized) and 6.4 Hemi also uses a pressurized coolant tank. The one pictured by the OP is definitely a pressurized style tank requiring a pressure cap. Pressurized coolant tank are becoming the norm with vehicles.

That does look like the correct part number for the coolant tank cap.

Looks like they just updated the design. Both of those have a pressure relief valve in the cap, just slightly different design. You are good to go.

Guess I will give it a try and see what happens. I still find it hard to believe that the cap could cause it to go into limp mode. lol

update, the "fix" fixed nothing other than a diagnostic charge and the price of a new coolant reservoir cap coming out of my wallet. taking her back in tomorrow to have the latest, like #5, recall on the front end done. service guy said he would look at it again and that the cap fix didnt even sound right to him. I'm like WTF dude?? thats what i said when yall told me that was the problem. guess we will see if we have to fight over whether or not I'm going to have to pay to have it fixed again for the same problem? my last five trucks have been dodge. I may be rethinking my choice if this doesnt get resolved this time.

Thanks Jasmine. Dealer has been good. He has already called me today to give me a progress report. So far I am more that satisfied in the progress they are making because I do realize i am not the only one in the world that has a vehicle they are working on.
