Hey guys, I haven't used my nav since buying the truck, so today I fire it up in prep for an upcoming trip. This has got to be the blandest nav I have ever seen! Everything is white with shades of blue, with the exception of the streets and roads. No map detail even in 3d mode, just the roads. Is it supposed to be like this, or do I have a fault? I would have thought at least green for land and blue for water.

What navs are you comparing to? The Ram nav is way better than Ford or vw. I can't speak for other systems.

I had at 2014 Dodge Dart with the same alpine system w/nav, that in 3d mode showed hills and such as if you were driving thru them. The land was green, and water was blue, great detail on the maps. No detail at all on the ram, just ugly shades of blue, and no height detail at all. I'll grab a pic when I get a chance later tonight.

Pretty sure you can turn that 3D mode on on the Ram to.

Yes, I do have it enabled, as well as all the other check-marks.

Here is a pic of what mine looks like, perhaps someone with Nav can chime in as it correct or not.

That looks like a fairly normal display. With my Garmin, it only shows green when I come to a known park, blue of course for large, known bodies of water.

Guess I expected more from a $50k truck, when my $20k Dart looked this good:

Im 75% sure the difference is due to the backend of the GPS. The Dart uses basically a 99% match with one of garmins 7" GPS in most of the functions and displays, hence why you can update the dart radios using the software from a garmin. The ram does use garmin maps as a database but I believe the RIM based software overlays the GPS interface.

You could always get a lockpick and use Google Maps...

I don't think that the complaint is it's not "pretty" but rather it is a step down from the NAV systems in other Chrysler products that cost less than half of what was paid for the truck.

Thanks for the replies guys, and SitKneelBend, you hit the nail on the head about the step down.

noupf, I care. It is my hard earned money I dropped on this truck, which is outstanding in every other aspect. I expected the nav system to be just as outstanding.......oh well.

A lot of responses in this thread that I wouldn't have expected. He was just asking a question, not sure what brought out the negative nancy's.

He got answers . He says he didn't know it was like that and thought for 50k ( which he didn't pay 50k for it) it would have more detail. My 2 post were simple looks like mine and I don't see a problem. The other one was maybe you should of looked at it before you bought it . I looked at mine and knew everything about it before I bought it. So if that's negative Nancy maybe people should put they're big girl pants on.

I have to agree with the OP. :word: When the sales guy told me it's based on Garmin, I thought I was good to go. I looked at it briefly, but hey it's a garmin, I figured I could configure it. Especially make the fonts bigger.
Now I have to put my reading glasses on to read the street names while navigating and then take them off to drive.
This thing is the worst part of my 1500 by far. The single worst point of failure as far as I'm concerned on this truck.
my $90 garmin works a million times better.
We have so many POIs around here that have been around for a decade that the GPS can't find.
It's basically junk expect for the absolute most basic gps'inn
I have no experience with other car's GPS, I've always used garmin, so I guess my standards are high :baby:
