Yeah, I plan on putting the old one back in to see if it remedies it. If it doesn’t I guess just replace the water pump and flush the radiator and cross my fingers lol

Always test a new thermostat before installing it,even that doesn't mean it'll still be good in a couple weeks, but at least you'll know it's good when you install it.Yeah, I plan on putting the old one back in to see if it remedies it. Will do, I’ll wait until the wife isn’t in the house so she doesn't get mad I’m using her exspensive pans! LolAlways test a new thermostat before installing it,even that doesn't mean it'll still be good in a couple weeks, but at least you'll know it's good when you install it.
These days don't be surprised if your new thermostat goes south in a couple weeks or months, the days of them lasting 10 years are long gone. Boil your old thermostat before re-installing it,so it's clean going back in.
By a long shot, but then again my truck isn't really stock, lol. I run a 180 t-stat and dual remote oil filters to keep both coolant and oil temps down where i like them, lol. My truck stays under 200f,even when i have my foot buried through the firewall for 5 miles or more,or i'm making back to back passes at the track.Even my oil temps hardly ever get over 200f.The highest i've ever seen my oil temps was when i was playing with a built Suburu WRX in the mountains one time when it was 95F,and the truck was in 3rd and 4th running between 4500 and 6500 rpm for 20 miles staying ahead of the WRX,and i seen 210 on oil temp that one time. Will do, I’ll wait until the wife isn’t in the house so she doesn't get mad I’m using her exspensive pans! So I take it my temps are hotter than yours?
Dual oil filters are keeping your oil temps down? Is that due to volume of oil? Seems strange. A lower T-stat temp does not decrease coolant temps. It opens sooner, to allow flow sooner. The cooling system “radiator and pump” dictate how much heat gets bled from the coolant. Theres formulas to calc how much heat gets bled from the coolant vs time spent in the radiator. The thermostat doesn’t dictate anything in regards to your actual “up to temp” temperatures. I’m not sure how your running those numbers but I know for a 100% fact a lower temp T-stat and dual oil filters isn’t dropping your temps that much! If that was the case me and all the other sprint car guys would be running dual oil filters and no thermostats lolBy a long shot, but then again my truck isn't really stock, lol. I play with Suburu WRX’s in my Infiniti G37… my truck is a paper weight powered by a hampster wheel in comparison lolBy a long shot, but then again my truck isn't really stock, lol. Last time on the dyno,my truck made 572 lb-ft at the tires at a lowly ole 3200 rpm, truck also plays with 717 horse Hellcats at the track, lol.I have a few buddies with KittyCats that won't line up beside it,as it's embarressing when a full size 5300 lb 4X4 beats them through the lights, lol. The truck was a bit of a sleeperI play with Suburu WRX’s in my Infiniti G37… my truck is a paper weight powered by a hampster wheel in comparison lol
Fun fact my G37 has never had a check engine light since I’ve owned it and it’s been beat on! I’m meticulous with maintenance but holy cow I was young when I first bought it and it’s seen 145+ mph on multiple occasions. Those days have slowed though since I’ve had kids. I keep my hooligan stunts on the dirt track with a wing and a 5 point harness. I did have a SC C6 vette for awhile. 600hp and 601 ft lbs torque on the dyno. It was a beast. Sold it after getting a bit squirrelly at 165+ on the back roads and wife was with me.
So it’s not naturally aspirated. It doesn't have a super charger or turbo on it I'm no fan of boosting a Hemi,So it’s not naturally aspirated. Sweet truck
So hopefully to finish this thread on my rebuild and to circle back around to the cooling scenario.
I pulled the thermostat and boiled it along with the old one, they both opened the same amount at 203 degrees according to my digital instant meat thermometer.
Pulled the radiator and sure enough there was a lot of crap that came out of it when flushing with the hose. I must of disturbed a lot of crud when I did the rebuild. I went ahead and did a couple distilled water flushes after putting everything back to get the rest out and…
Fast forward it’s all back together with the new thermostat that I put in during rebuild and temp sits between 199 and 204 on the highway 75 degrees ambient temp. Put another 120 miles on it today round trip to my office. Now to go look at trading it in… haha JK
Looked like chunks of rusty sediment? maybe some old gasket material from cleaning the block? Maybe someone put some stop leak in to fix a busted radiator or something not sure.Awesome!
What was the crud that came out?
Could be casting sand as FCA has issues with getting the blocks cleaned out after they're cast,it's more common in the 6.4's,but 5.7's have also been known to clog heater cores and rads with left over casting sand.Looked like chunks of rusty sediment? maybe some old gasket material from cleaning the block? Yep. In the process of deleting the post. Member got hacked, so we have to go in and clear them all out. Thanks for reporting itCan we get that last post removed mods? Don’t need that kind of stuff floating around these forums.
