Chrysler went to the Internal Voltage Regulator after too many complaints about Batteries being over charged when they were using an external regulator.

The alternator with the internal voltage regulator was controlled by the PCM & software.

When the battery is charging & reaches something like 85% charged, the PCM cuts the juice to the battery

"I don't know of many if any mopars that used an internal voltage regulator.

Unless they have changed over the past years ( I don't wrench professionally any longer) this is how mopar has done it for decades."
Spot on. Mopar cars or trucks, the PCM has had voltage control for a long, long time.
