You'll probably get a lot of nay sayers as the forum is Hemi biased. There's a bunch of 200K+ miles EcoDiesels over on a different forum for the platform, even some that have made the 400K mile realm.
If you like the fun pedal, keep the Hemi. If you drive or tow a bunch and looking to save on fuel then buy it, tune it(if it isn't already) and drive it till the wheels come off

Jim, Love my 15, even though it spun a main. FCA fixed NC Tows 7k no problem. Just stay on maintenance program.

3rd gen only, Crash? Might want to advise OP on early gen issues.

Haven't heard any 3rd Gen EcoDiesels making it to 200K miles yet ... so by forum internet logic those must be junk ..SMH

Check to see if the Emissions settlement was done
& the Emissions re-adjustment was done
( the dealerships had all over adjusted & we lost several MPG, that was later partially corrected )

Then there was

Recall no. 20V475000
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Ram 1500 and 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

Recall no. 19V757000
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic Pickup trucks equipped with 3.0L Eco Diesel engines. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.

I only mention this, because some recalls may only apply to the original owner

Jim, just my two cents. Like any engine there can be issues. Diesels have become complicated with EPA mandated pollution control. The eco diesel wouldn’t work for me due to the mostly short trips I take with fewer and fewer hwy trips. IMHO, the most important thing to consider is the ability to have competent repairs done. From reading on the forums, it seems to me, not all dealers have competent diesel techs. Good luck with your Decision.

Ha ha. Yeah, I meant the other way around where 3rd gen had issues fixed. Kinda like 2017+ Hemis were supposed to get 'improved' valve lifters. Whatever that meant.

My 2016 eco has 142k miles and I can't wait to get rid of it. I have had so many exhaust issues where using diesel cleaner has helped but I'm always scared of something major happening.

I had to drop the tranny to replace a $20 magnetic ring around 90k so I would stay away from the old generation ones since I have heard a lot of constant issues with them.
