I've noticed when I start my truck up and pull out of the drive everything feels sluggish getting out of 1st the first time. Hitting the accelerator doesn't give me a normal response and it sounds like the truck is sucking in air. Once I've shifted up and back down I'm fine until my truck has a chance to cool down again.

It doesn't make a difference based on the temp of the day, had the same feeling at 50F and 85F. It's been a while since I've had a Hemi so I don't know if this is normal. Anything I should be worried about?

Vacuum? You should be able to duplicate in park with hood open and giving it some throttle.

The 8HP70 does like to shift differently for the very first up shift into second for the day. It will usually hold the gear longer then after that all subsequent shifts even from first to second are smooth as usual. It's been widely discussed on this forum and no known issues with the transmission.
No one has really pinned down a cause or reason and not all transmissions do it all the time. There is probably something in the start up programming routine of the TCM/ECM that causes it.

Oh that's somewhat relieving to hear. Feel like I'm waiting for it to fall apart since it's the first time I've bought used :D

Get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the bolts on the intake to see if the idle increases, Have you checked your intake plenum the bolts they have been known to loosen up due to the rubber gasket getting compressed, you should remove the bolts and loc tite them, and there is a torque sequence to tightening them. I'll find the Sequence for you!!!

You can try putting the transmission in neutral before you take off the first time just to check, this will rotate your fluid, but at least in the rfe the fluid doesn't rotate in park.

I don't think the delayed shift is caused by fluid not moving around. I back out of the garage over 100' and have tried pausing in neutral before going into drive and it will still happen from time to time.

For sure, just saying rule it out at least once.

Gave it a go yesterday. Revving in place seemed normal. Let it sit a couple minutes and then when I pulled out it behaved the same as normal, slow to get going.

I've noticed something similar on my '14 recently. I was putting it down to the the fact that the truck is sitting for 6 days out of 7 due to the lockdown...

My 2016 has been doing it as well.. sometimes I feel like it's got some major issues but problems with the 8 speed seem very few and far between

My truck does this aswell. But I think mine is part of hill control. My driveway is a bit of a hill and when I back down it there's no problem. But when I back up the hill and drive forward the first time it will hold the 1st gear longer then jolts into second some times.

That's interesting. I always back into my drive as well. It's not terribly steep but I might have to do a test to see if it makes a difference.

I shut the hill control off on mine within 2 days of buying it, couldn't stand it. So it's not that on mine...
